Reds @ Red Sox...Game 2

    A couple of observations.

It's clear Hoover can't be trusted. He's a mop-up man. He's better than Ondrusek and Christiani, but that's not saying much, and he should be at best, the 2nd to last or last guy in the pen.

It's also clear Marshall isn't the same pitcher he once was. He got rocked the other day and doesn't have nearly the velocity he used to have. He's a 2-pitch pitcher who used to be 94/95 MPH with a nasty, nasty curve. Not anymore.

Lets face it, the pen is trouble. There isn't one shut down guy down there. Neither of the lefties are great. Broxton is a middle reliever who hasn't been dominant at all as a closer. LeCure is the only guy I'd say who has a defined role as a setup guy and I trust on most nights.

You hear them talk of all the outs at home and doing the contact play when a runner is on 3rd and one out. The problem is not the strategy, which is good - you make the effort and make them make the play, then stay in the rundown long enough to get a replacement runner to 3rd. The problem is the hitting! Once they hit the ball in a poor spot, generally the play works out as it should, given the poor hit. Tonight Pena gave up on staying alive before the hitter could get to 2B to replace the runner that was there to start the play.

What was the thing we heard most when Price took over?

    Accountability.
We heard it alot when he took over, and that shit isnt happening with Hoover.

I like Price. I like his game plan to run more an dput some pressure on the defense. Sure, you run into some outs but for the most part it has been better than the station by station approach by DB.

The job of a manager is to put your players in the best position to be successful. LeClure can pitch against lefties in big spots....but Hoover has not shown that this season.

So why in the hell pitch Hoover to righties when Marshall is still available? They didnt even have him up and ready.
With that said...if they would fucking hit with guys ISP then this shit wouldnt be so glaring

Hoover started terible last year and got better, but this team cannot afford to keep running him out there.

YOu cannot win whenyou get the production from BP and JV. Other than about a week when JV was moved to the 2 hole he has been like last season. I know he said he was OK with the move, but you know the ego was hurt an dit pissed him off and he came out on fire.
