And getting moved down in the order seems to have broken him out of a pretty bad slump, too. He'd turned into a black hole at leadoff, but has probably been around .300 while moving around the 5-7 spots.

Detroit is absolutely rolling early on. 19-9 and already a 5 game lead in the Central. Helps they have a few more games against the Astros coming up, I don't think I have seen a worse professional team than Houston. So bad

Houston's been playing the "Well, we have a stacked minor league system so it won't be like this forever!!!!" card for a few years now. Granted, not as long as Kansas City has been, but coming in second to the all-time record holder in "wait until the future is here!!!!" promises is still something!

It's bad some of the mistakes they make. No one except Altuve and Springer can actually produce solid at bats consistently and some of the mistakes they make are unbelievable. Like the first baseman missed the ball on an easy toss from 3rd lol

Yeah, I find it depressing they left the NL Central, just when you could start consistently counting on going 13-5 or 14-4 against them.

Houston's GM absically said in 2011 it's going to take 7-8 years. They are on-track. They have made no friends by admittedly tanking and trimming all extra fat from their expense docket. It's a miracle that they still draw the fans they do, albeit they are bottom 5 in attendance over the last 3 years.

I don't mind it. It's a bold, but smart move for a franchise that was running with an unsustainable model in the 90's/2000's. As a fan, I just wouldn't support it until they started to show something, and I wouldn't feel bad about it either.

What was the unsustainable model? Spending money? Houston is top 5 in population and a top 10 tv market in the country. They have no excuse to be cheap.

Regardless, it should never take that long to rebuild.

The unsustainable model was spending on players that could only keep you afloat instead of swimming to the destination. With the MLB's revenue sharing model, there's no reason not to blow it up and build your farm system.

I just wrote a 30 page paper on competitive balance for my sports law class lol, I harped on the MLB quite a bit.
