Official 2014 NASCAR Thread

Haven't seen anyone talking NASCAR on here lately, and with the Unlimited coming up this Saturday I figure it was time to start one. What's everybody think about the new Chase format?
  • GoChiefs
So many changes this year it's unbelievable. Let's see:

    Qualifying format
The new qualifying format, which I'm a huge fan of. It's going to be like a race within a race. It will definitely make watching qualifying a lot more fun, and should put more asses in the stands for qualifying too. If you haven't heard, the new qualifying format is similar to F1.

For 1.25 mile tracks and longer, there's 3 rounds. For round 1, all vehicles are on the track for 25 minutes. After the 25 minutes, there's a 5 minute break. Then round 2 begins. The 24 fastest cars from round 1 advance. They race for 10 minutes. Then there's another 5 minute break. Then the 12 fastest cars advance to round 3, where they will race for 5 minutes. Times will be set by the fastest times in round 3 and on down.

For tracks 1.25 miles and less, you have 2 rounds. Round 1, all cars race for 30 minutes, then there's a 10 minute break. Then the 12 fastest vehicles from round 1 advance to round 2 where they race for 10 minutes.

    Air Titan
NASCAR also announced that the air titan would be at every track instead of just the select few, so that's a plus.

    The Chase
I personally wish they'd just get rid of the damn Chase. NASCAR isn't a stick and ball sport. Quit trying to put a "playoff" system. The fans want the best driver all season long to win the Championship. How do you do that? It's simple. Forget any damn bonus points or anything like that. You win a race, you get 43 points, you finish last, you get 1 point. It's that easy. At the end of the season, the best driver will be your champion.

Having the entire season come down to just one race between 4 drivers is absurd. But, they have the Superbowl in the NFL! The World Series in baseball! The World Finals in the NBA! Yea, but that's between just 2 teams. You're not playing against 42 other teams at the same time that can fuck up your chances. Want a one race shootout? Then have just the 4 cars eligible for the Championship on the track. Tell all the others to stay home after they are eliminated.

Brian France and all his changes are just ruining this damn sport. He's so hell bend on "leaving his legacy" like the Bill France's before him, that he's not thinking about the good of NASCAR. The only legacy he's leaving is a bad one.

    Revamped Penalty System
It's about fucking time. They need a set rule book. You do this, you get fined this. It should be a case by case basis and at NASCAR's determination. Favoritism was always shown, and it was complete bullshit. Hopefully this makes penalties a lot more consistent across the board.

Those are the big changes. One I'd love to see, which I can't believe hasn't happened yet, is rotating Chase races. Quit making the same races Chase races every year. Mix it up. Take out the speedways from the Chase, add a road course, and equal short tracks and 1.5 mile tracks. Level the playing field and quit playing it to Jimmie Johnson's strengths.

The return of the 3. Hell yes, I love it.

Smoke returns. He's admitted his leg is only at 65%, yet, he refuses to have a backup driver on standby at Daytona. That's just stupid to me. Quit trying to be all macho and do what's best for your team. You have no idea how your going to feel after 100 miles in the car, let alone 500 miles.

I hope the first peron that gets nailed for tandem drafting today in the Busch race goes off on NASCAR. It's bullshit that they're dictating how they draft because some fans don't like it. If it's the fastest way around the place, let it happen!

Saw that National Anthem, it was baaad. And this whole no pushing rule is dumb as hell. Is that only in Nationwide?
  • GoChiefs
Nationwide and trucks. Yes, a stupid fucking rule that needs removed ASAP. It completely ruined this race today. Who gives a shit if they want to race tandem? Let them! Why would you dictate how someone can race...IN A FUCKING RACE?

That anthem was so bad. Even the drivers were laughing during it.

The 500 is about 30 mins away!
  • GoChiefs
Yes sir! C'mon Rowdy and Outlaw!
  • iclfan2
Rooting for the #20, and would be ok with an #18 win also.
  • redstreak one
I stopped watching Nascar when they went to the chase! I have the race on now, giving it a second chance, but I just cant get behind some of these young guys. They just don't have that grit that the old guys carried with them. Rooting for Terry Labonte, lol. It seems guys like the Busch brothers and some others are good drivers, but they are bitches. They seem better suited for open wheels! IMO.
  • GoChiefs
People complain that the drivers are boring, then complain that the ones with personality are 'bitches'. Smh. Kyle's probably closest to old school as you can get on the race track
  • Classyposter58
Good race so far, lots of 3 wide for so early in the race
  • shook_17

Pretty damn good Daytona 500. Big names up front at the end, good action, and an Earnhardt wins.
  • Curly J
Congrats to Jr Nation, but now we get to hear him stumble through another interview. Worst. Interviews. Ever.

True. Tonight's interview was down right decent.
  • GoChiefs
I was happy he got the win, but about an hour afterwards, I remembered why I hate Jr fucking Nation. Unbearable already.

Guy wins one restrictor plate race in how long? Now 'he's back' and he's in 'championship form' etc.

And we get to hear from the fans about how great he is.
  • WebFire
Oh, and I've heard many worse national anthems than that one.
