I don't know. I was never one to blame Jim for everything. It had to suck Miggy getting hurt and Fielder not able to do a thing right for whatever reason.Tiernan;1521219 wrote:Tigers fans are cheering.
He tried to make the bullpen work-but they rarely performed up to standards either.
Some things he did worked well. Moving Jackson down in the batting order worked for a couple games-the middle of the line-up just sucked so bad it didn't matter. -
Laley23That line-up was ridiculously flawed all season. Leyland went to 3 straight LCS'. He is going to be very hard to replace.

HereticWell, when the greatest collection of talent in the history of world doesn't go 162-0 and sweep their way through the postseason, someone's head has to roll...

TBone14Leyland can manage the hell out of a baseball team. One of only a few to win pennants in both leagues. He took over a Tigers team that was about 70 win team max and turned them into a World Series team in a season and annual contenders. This went hand in hand with some excellent front office moves and guys like Justin Verlander turning into Justin Verlander but Leyland deserves much of the credit.
I think Tigers fan forget the state of their organization in the early 2000's. Those teams were historically awful. Leyland was a big huge part of the shift to a winning culture in Detroit. Glad he could go out on his own terms. Rare to see someone care as much about his players and wear that on their sleeves like Leyland. I can never root for the Tigers...but I can always root for a guy like Jim Leyland. -

Until they realize what they had while they're winning 75-80 games next season and missing the playoffs. -

That’s funny because some Tigers fans are scared to death they will hire Dusty.thavoice;1521204 wrote:and will accept the reds offer. -

Classyposter58I liked Jimmy, sure he made some mistakes but was a good guy, from Toledo, and kept his boys in line. Now was he on Joe Maddon's level, no, but he was darn good and will be missed

stlouiedipalmaLeyland was one hell of a manager before he ever stepped foot in Detroit. What he did there only confirmed what a lot of good baseball people already knew. I hope he has a good life after baseball, he deserves it.
