I actually kinda agree with what you're saying, but the ones portraying the crushed grieving dad is the media, not AP. I haven't heard him say a whole lot on the subject other than a statement thanking people for their support.Tiernan;1516911 wrote:The same source numbnutz...he found out about the kid being his 4 mos. ago after the DNA confirmation. Kudos to AP for helping with the funeral but he doesn't know the kid so whole he may have had intentions to be involved in the boy's life he hasn't done so yet and the crushed grieving Dad act seems tired to me. -
TiernanNice job Hits r Us...some idiot posted a picture of a child with angel wings in a Vikings jersey on my FB saying "prayers for AP tomorrow"...ridiculous.

Meaningless in that he is an entertainer...the team goes on whether he is there or not...its just football. You are right about it being stupid shit that people care one way or the other, but it's obvious that he didn't feel the need to miss a football game to handle details, his grief, comfort his family, etc etc....so why are people gushing all over this.??? Because he's Adrian Peterson? How many of those people turned the page without batting an eyelash, when the paper reports another baby died from domestic violence right in their own home town. I'm not blasting Peterson...it's his decision depending and based upon his relationship. It irritates me that he gets special attention from people, not because he deserves it more than the family down the street, but because he is a all pro NFL player.Mulva;1517114 wrote:Because the kid will be less dead if he doesn't play, right? Stupid fucking shit that people care about what he decides one way or the other. Equally stupid is the implication that the Vikings record is meaningful in the situation. -

Different people cope in different ways. Did you say the same thing about Brett Favre when he played the day after his father died?HitsRus;1517157 wrote:Meaningless in that he is an entertainer...the team goes on whether he is there or not...its just football. A child abuse story like this would most definitely get attention even if he wasn't an NFL player. Sadly there are stories like this on CNN and the like every day.HitsRus;1517161 wrote:^^^^see my edit.

HitsRus^^^But if this was a member of the Vikings practice squad, I pretty much would guarantee you wouldn't see a post or 1/50 the stuff on facebook or internet sites.

Shit that happens to famous people always gets high publicity. Its been like this forever. Not sure why you decided to pick this thread to go on a rant.HitsRus;1517161 wrote:^^^^see my edit.

Stuff gains traction all the time. The headline story on CNN.com right now is about a baby that was killed 20 years ago. You are seeing posts on forums like they are more sports oriented. Go to a website that is more modeling oriented or something, I bet you don't see 1 post about it. I see posts on facebook all the time about beaten or killed children.HitsRus;1517164 wrote:^^^But if this was a member of the Vikings practice squad, I pretty much would guarantee you wouldn't see a post or 1/50 the stuff on facebook or internet sites. -

I would dispute that...this tragedy is so common that it is lucky to make page 2 in your local paper. CNN? Idoubt it (unless you are Adrian Peterson)....3-4 babies a day die in the U.S. from "Shaken Baby Syndrome" ALONE. If there is something to go on about, it is that this stuff happens all the time, and we only seem to care when it happens to a celebrity.A child abuse story like this would most definitely get attention even if he wasn't an NFL player. HitsRusShow me the other 1200 deaths. This is only reported because they solved a murder mystery and the unusualness of the case. If they had caught or known who the killers were right away this would be local news, maybe not even on page 1.
-
LJI thought they only reported it on celebs? I saw at least 3 others on CNN this past week from various areas of the country. The one thing that the Peterson story has in common with the others you typically see is that the killer already had a suspended sentence for domestic violence. Those always seem to get some heavy reporting.

Sadly, equally disgusting shit that happens isn't reported on. You hear about the deaths, but you don't hear about the 6 year old that's terrified of GI Joes because his uncle has been shoving them up his ass for the last 2 years, or the 12 year old boy who was forced to have sex with his 10 year sister, who was tied up to the bed, while their mother videotaped them. Both happened just this past week.LJ;1517175 wrote:You're wrong. CNN reports this stuff ALL the time.

HereticAnd now the OC has finally reached the jaw-dropping revelation that not every single story gets reported the exact same.
At this rate, the ability to handle simple logic might be an obtainable goal by 2040 or so.
And now I'll leave you to continue expressing dismay, astonishment and shock that the product of a famous athlete known around the country might get more press than the product of random trailer trash that isn't known much farther than their lot. -

se-alumYea, I'm not exactly understanding the dismay of a famous person garnering more media attention than someone who's known only in their home area.

Hell, why are we talking about NFL players and their games? All over the country, there are youth leagues and middle/high school teams that all have players on them. WHERE ARE THEIR NATIONAL HEADLINES?!?!?!?se-alum;1517217 wrote:Yea, I'm not exactly understanding the dismay of a famous person garnering more media attention than someone who's known only in their home area. -
TedShecklerWhy the butthurtness over why he's playing and why not butthurtness over the first time he saw his kid was when he was on life support?
