  And having no fire at times when they've needed it, or the countless times where he's done something that makes you think WTF? And then had a completely ridiculous reason as to why he did what he did. All of the national media people that are criticizing the Reds for firing him just don't get it.

  I don't really know, but I think they need to go outside of the organization. Price 100% needs to stay as pitching coach though.

  Interesting mainly due to Marty thinking the team might try to deal Brandon to get more flexibility to do things salary-wise. Don't know that I'd think that'd be a particularly good idea due to how he's an amazing defensive player who provides good production (especially for a second baseman) who is under contract for a long time.
  
  But it always could be fun to tie it into the whole "will Jocketty make a run at LaRussa" theory, with the half-baked hypothesis that he'd be more willing to manage a team without the dude who called his previous team (while he was managing there) little bitches.

  If you could get some serious value for Phillips, deal him. Sure, he's a great defender, but he's an average at best offensive player. Very undisciplined hitter who doesn't make your overall lineup better. That's what the team needs. Better at-bats.

  Maddon is the hip and hot guy in MLB....I like him a whole lot, but he's possibly a bit overrated.
  
  Bryan Price....I like how he works and his demeanor, this hire would not bother me.
  
  Barry Larkin.....probably wouldn't work but I wouldn't oppose.
  
  Joe Morgan.....I'm the only person in the world that thinks he'd do a good job regardless of his old school ways.

  And it's insane that as long as Jocketty has been a GM....TLR is the only manager he's ever hired.

  Matheny is one of those guys who was a pretty good, not great player. Former catcher. He went into coaching the day he retired. He was already part of the Cardinal family long before he became manager.
  
  Pretty comparable to Sean Casey, but I'm not quite sure Casey is ready to lead a team ready to contend. Barry Larkin managed Brazil in the WBC and has been around the game longer since retirement than Casey. While he's rough around the edges in-terms of experience, so were some of the other guys who have been successful thus far.
  
  The key here is getting the right guy who the players respect/trust, but also someone who has a fire and is going to be willing to tell it like it is when necessary. Larkin was that guy when he played...

  As far as Larkin is concerned..,.......Great player, and the reds could strike gold in hiring him.
  
  But it could flop big time. Not enough experience managing, but then again every great manager was given their first real big break so who knows.

  I heard Boras saying that he thinks Carl/Crawford/Jayson Werth (both his clients) money is too low for Choo based on all his age/metrics.
  
  That means he is looking for 7/8 years and $130 million as a starting point.
  
  I am assuming that is not happening. If Boras gets that deal somewhere more power to him.
  
  What is the farthest you guys seeing management willing to go to try and keep him contract wise?

  Choo is going to want 5yr/100M, at least. Good luck to whoever gives him that. The Reds saw enough of Billy Hamilton and have enough financial responsibilities elsewhere to really even have a shot.
  
  My guess is Yankees or Cubs. The Yankees OF is just about wide open with Granderson and Soriano free agents, Ichiro no longer a starter.

  I think ultimately they offer him the 1 year 15 mil deal to get the draft pick and he signs elsewhere.

  Its not my money, go ahead and give him whatever. Make him or BH play left. Now if they go ahead and get a solid LF in FA then put BH in center I wouldn't mind letting him go. All I know is Ludwick better not be this teams starting LF next year.
