Reds vs Mets...Game 2

I'll admit, I laughed at that one.

Marshall throws 11 pitches to Lagares with the lead-off hitter on 1st with no out, and gets a 5-4-3 DP grounder, but BP just does not turn DPs well and the fast Lagares beats it out.

Meanwhile, the Cards will basically eliminate the Reds from any shot at the Central with a no-hitter from Mike Wacha.

Solid effort. Will probably need to sweep the Pirates to get the one game playoff at home. Douchebags.

If Reds win, or Pirates lose Wed, 2 of 3 wins vs Pirates will get the home game in Cincy. The chance to get a home game by winning just 1 of 3 this weekend vaporized tonight. Only way Reds would need all 3 this weekend is if tomorrow Reds lose and Pirates win.

Now we can see the wisdom of Reynolds being listed as the starter Wed. If they would have been tied after the games Tuesday, it wouldn't have mattered if either team won or lost Wed, as any way you cut it(whether one or the other team was ahead by one game) the team that wins 2 of 3 gets the home game Tuesday. So I am puzzled why they announce Latos for tomorrow before the game tonight, because why have him pitch Wed if the game were going to mean nothing if both teams won or both teams lost tonight. Only logic would be they have conceded the big prize, the div title, and it is more important for Latos to pitch Tuesday than it is for the game to be in Cincy.

With the way tonight worked out, the Reds need to win Wed to assure they only need 2 of 3 this weekend to get Tuesday's game at home.

    Why Latos today?

Its puts him on his regular rest to pitch in the 1 game playoff monday.
Think they showed the Pirates rotation for th erest of the season....Pretty sure Liriano wasnt on it and is getting a little extra rest for the one game playoff. There is a good chance they asked Latos what he wanted to do. 1,2,3 or so days extra rest or stay on the normal rotation.

Unless something has changed, Liriano goes today.

That may be right. All I know is during one fo the cin/pit games this weekend FSO put up the rotations for both teams the rest of the season. Liriano was not on the list, and the announcers even mentioned how that was interesting he wasnt on it.

Doesnt matter.....it will be Liriano and Latos for the right to move on.

    How confident do we feel?

The only alteration to Pittsburgh rotation that I know of is that Locke is shut down for the season (at least as a starter). Which they can do because of the day off tomorrow, so if they want, they can pitch Morton and Cole in the second and third games while still keeping them on normal rest. Or if they don't want to give Cole more innings in a meaningless game (if both teams are locked into their playoff seeds by Sunday), they could use Cumpton instead.

Yahoo at least has Liriano listed as today's starter and I can't imagine why they'd want to give their ace a huge amount of rest to take him out of his regular schedule. That's the kind of thing that can kill you in a potential one-game playoff.

Agreed. and I think that is why when they showed it taht they discussed it for a bit as to why he wasnt on the list.

Will be interesting to see it all play out.
