Reds vs Cubs...Game 1

Ironman92Whew.

Azubuike24Travis Wood vs Bronson Arroyo. After 0 for 4 for Votto, does Ludwick start at 1st and does Billy possibly get a start?

I'd be absolutely shocked..... -
Azubuike24Well, it would be a decent time to give Votto a day off. Also, Heisey started tonight and did nothing. Only other possibility is maybe starting Billy in CF if Choo gets a day off in this series as well. Either way, if Hamilton is gonna be on the postseason roster, you have to at least let him go up to the plate a few times.
-
se-alumHamilton is doing what he is capable of, pinch running. No way they allow him to play defensively in the middle of a pennant race, not to mention the fact that he hasn't shown the ability to hit AAA pitching, let alone MLB pitching.
-
Azubuike24Neither has Derrick Robinson. Or Donald Lutz. Or Neftali Soto. Or Henry Rodriguez. All of them got at bats, some extended.
-
se-alumRobinson and Lutz were forced into playing. How many games has Soto and Rodriguez started? Billy is most valuable as a pinch runner late in the game, that's his niche. He's not MLB caliber in the other facets of the game, yet.
-
Azubuike24I don't disagree with you, I'm simply talking about just getting him a few at-bats.
Again, Soto, Lutz and Rodriguez have ZERO chance of sniffing the postseason and Robinson is looking highly unlikely. It's a different and unique situation with Billy, which is why I do think he needs to get even just a few reps in the field and at the dish. -

Only game I could see Hamilton making a 25-man playoff roster for, is the wild card game.Azubuike24;1497700 wrote:I don't disagree with you, I'm simply talking about just getting him a few at-bats.

Azubuike24We just are way off on opinion with this subject I guess.

We are. Pretty sure you're supposed to call me an idiot when we disagree though! I'm as excited as anyone to see Billy as a major contributor to this team, just don't see his value as a pinch hitter or double switch guy, as of yet.Azubuike24;1497702 wrote:We just are way off on opinion with this subject I guess. -
TedShecklerReds should win; therefore, they lose 4-2.
-
Rotinaj3 of 4 against the Cards and a 3 game sweep of the Dodgers. I fully expect us to lose 9 straight with the Cubs, Brewers, and Astros coming up next.

How did Soto do in a pinch hitting position last night? 3 pitches, 1 K. It's not like Billy could do any worse.se-alum;1497704 wrote:We are. No one is saying give Billy playoff starts. Or even extended playing time. Or even a pinch hit opportunity like last night. But you have to give him a few starts when playing the Cubs and Brewers at home. See what he can do. -
baseballstud24Why does Dusty continue to bat Soto over Ludwick in late inning situations..I believe 3 times now? Has Soto done anything other than strike out? He may have had a decent year in Louisville, but I think he's outmatched up here. I also think Ludwick gets a little frustrated with it.
-
Azubuike24Soto and Rodriguez can't hit in Louisville and provide nothing at all in-terms of value to an MLB roster.
Apparently, Dusty didn't like Ludwick vs Kershaw... -
mhs95_06
You spend Billy H as a PH and you don't have him when the ideal opportunity comes. Same with Ludwick, he'd be far and away the best person to PH, but you use him, you lose him for a more urgent and/or better opportunity.Azubuike24;1497805 wrote:Soto and Rodriguez can't hit in Louisville and provide nothing at all in-terms of value to an MLB roster.

They said something about how Ludwick does not have a good history vs Kershaw.Azubuike24;1497805 wrote:Soto and Rodriguez can't hit in Louisville and provide nothing at all in-terms of value to an MLB roster.

But then again...who does?
As a manager who do you trust more to get a bit hit off of him? Ludwick of some fucking stuff from the bench?
I don't complain about DB much but that was just plain stupid on his part.
Cannot have let down now -

mhs95_06After Votto's misplay, Reds and Arroyo get a windfall to get out of the first inning with no damage, but themselves fail to do anything with 2 on and 1 out in the first.
Cubs then take the lead with a HR in the 2nd. These games need to seize it early and not wait for the opponent to think they've got a shot to win. -
Ironman92Votto with the error but in the end it didn't produce a run so they went ahead and made it a hit.
That irritates me more than it should. -
Ironman92Travis Wood really knows how to pitch.

se-alumGlad to see our Reds are back. Was afraid they were gonna make a run at the division title there for a minute.
