Football is a bit ABSURD this year.....

I'm really getting tired of it....it's so frustrating!

If anyone is ever going to make the bought off argument....it's this year

    The most unpredictable year...ever

I said in the preseason I wasn't going to worry this year as my team won it last year and have won it 6 times in my lifetime.....but I wasn't aware that every single game was a nail-biter with so many hideous losses. Has there ever been a team lose 7 games and have so many coulda, shoulda woulda's??? Had 4th qtr leads in every game.........and finally won vs Green Bay with 503 yards passing. The 7 losses and missing the playoffs....eh, no biggie...but the excruciating endings to all of those games......UGH! Cleveland beat us by 6 or 7 and that was the most we were dominated.....and don't kickoff to Cribbs and who knows.

SO let me get this straight.......The Saints are 13-1....at home.....against the 2-12 Buccaneers and lose.....OK.......that makes sense since they beat the holy begeezus out of the Patriots.

The Colts are 14-0...with a lead in the 3rd qtr......eh screw it...makes sense, especially since they wrapped everything they needed up BEFORE playing last week's 4 qtr struggle vs Jacksonville.

The Broncos....win by complete luck in week #1....go 6-0.....and probably won't make the playoffs???? OK

The Bengals earn a 10-5 record thus far....have swept the Ravens and Steelers....but it probably makes more sense for them to tank it vs the Jets to help keep the Steelers and Ravens out.

The Steelers beat 12-3 San Diego (were up by 24 points!), beat 11-3 Minnesota, 10-5 Green Bay but lose to 4 of the 7 worst teams in the NFL???

Jacksonville loses to the Colts by 2 and 3 points respectively and then loses to Seattle by 41?

and going into the final week their are 4 possible rematches the very following week.....WOW....but not sure I can take it

    Typical year in the NFL...:D

That's part of the reason I don't gamble on the NFL

Here's what I don't understand about the NFL.

The Bengals went 6-0 in "the division", but it took them until this week to wrap up "the division." I am sorry but if a team goes UNDEFEATED in their division, then when they win the final "divisional game" they are the Division Champs. Overall record doesn't matter.

Think of it this way. If OSU goes 8-0 in the Big Ten and loses every out of conference game(making them 8-4 this year),they win the Big Ten(which is their "division"). So after the final Big Ten game, they would have clinched the "division."

Am I the only one who doesn't understand this???

    Very smart.

There is parity in the NFL at a great level. Those types of things are going to happen with a high degree of parity.

I understand what you are saying, but it is like this in all pro sports. Conference/divisional record is just a tie breaker.

I agree wildcats....though the majority of the games are outside the division....whereas in college it is 75% of the schedule usually....a little less in basketball

If it were the NCAA's Tounrament Bracket Pittsburg would probably be chosen with their big wins over high ranking teams.

If Mich St were to go 18-13 and finish 5th or 6th in the big team but have wins over #2 Texas, #7 Duke and #9 Syracuse...you know they'd get in....even if they lost to Eastern Michigan, Austin Peay and Toledo

..and I don't believe this year is typical....not at all

If overall record means more than the divisional record, than don't call them "divisional champs." Because they really aren't, had things gone differently of course.

    Just curious...

Has a team ever gone 6-0 in the division and NOT "won the division??"

what would your opinion be if a team went 6-0 in division and ended up 7-9 but another team in the same division went 13-3 overall?

My opinion(which doesn't mean anything) would be the team who went 6-0 in the division would be the division champions.

The odds of this scenario happening would be VERY long. The team who went 13-3 would have to be 13-1 against all other opponents and the team who went 7-9 would have to be 1-9 against all other opponents.

I guess this would tell me that the team who went 7-9 matched up great with their division teams, and not so great with everyone else. However, in the NFL, match-ups aren't as big of a factor. If you are a 7-9 team, chances are you can't go 6-0 in the division.

What's everyone think of playing a team in week #17 and then the first round of the playoffs the very next week.

    Could happen to New England/Houston, Cincy/Jets, Cardinals/Packers and Philly/Dallas

Nature of the beast. That'll show who the better team is because talent will prevail over game plans.

I'm more in awe of the 4 possible matchups....how often has this happened the past 10 years?

I still think it's tricky little scenario that I wouldn't want to choose to be apart of.
