As a Steelers fan, I admit bias in the whole thing. Strong "I HATE INDY AND WANT THEM TO FAIL AND POSSIBLY LOSE A COUPLE OF KNEES IN THE PROCESS" bias.

But the simple truth is that during the Manning era there, they have failed all three times they've had a first-round bye, losing their FIRST playoff game each time (99-00, 05-06, 07-08). When you're either the first or second team in your conference, going one-and-done should never be acceptable. I don't recall the 99-00 stuff off the top of my head, but I recall they shut things down a week or so early in both of the other two years. That's the sort of thing that might raise warning signs if I'm associated with this team.

The year Manning won a Super Bowl? They were the third seed. No first round bye. I think they just overthink the whole, "But what if someone gets hurt?!?" thing and take their team out of the rhythm that got them a first-round bye, leading to them getting upset when they finally get back on the field. If that happens this year, I'll be happily having a Mercury Morris champagne toast in front of my TV.

s what they do. Look at the Cavs last year. They had a chance to break an all time NBA record in going 40-1 at home...but they rested their players and lost.

Personnaly, I wish the Colts had done what Bellichek did....win em all. But, for every example shown where the resters lose in the playoffs, there are just as many examples wherby the resters won.

but that theory doesnt work because only 5 of the #1 and #2 seeds have won the superbowl since 2000(9 total) anyway. so its not like all the other teams who dont rest their starters win when they have a bye. its not just a Colts problem trying to win as a top seed. only one #1 seed has won the superbowl since then, the 2003 patriots.

because they did it. everyone else now will be the second undefeated team with an asterik for playing more games. when was the last time you heard a player or coach at the beginning of the year say "i wanna go undefeated this year"?

Both of you are wrong. The one year the Colts didn't get upset was the year they didn't rest any players because they didn't have a high seed and first round bye guaranteed.

The Colts have NEVER rested their players and made it to the Super Bowl. You'd think it was a trend they would notice.
