  Oh, they brought Villareal after using 6 pitchers last night. They used 4 more tonight. Wouldn't it make sense he pitch the 9th? Too much sense for Dustball.

  Chapman throws 11 pitches in the 9th, so he should be good for tomorrow, and with days off on Mon and Thurs, he'll need to pitch Wed or Thurs no matter if he pitches tomorrow or not.

  Cingrani was effective but not efficient. The Cards bad innings worked him 15-17 pitches.
  
  Gotta throw 1st pitch strikes....they have really been taking it, might change approach tomorrow if they think Cincy will do that.

  If you use him in the 11th, you have to be committed to use him in the 12th if you take the lead in the top of the 12th to seal the victory. And if you are willing to do that, you need to be willing to use him for 1+ inning saves in 9 innings, which we know Dusty is not yet this season. To me its more important to use him for tough 1+ inning saves than in 11th inning non save opportunities.

  They may very well change their strategy to go after the first pitches more tomorrow, but it will be caused more by who they are facing than what happened tonight. Leake is very prone to get beat up on hits on first pitches. Leake needs to make no more than half of his first pitches in the strike zone.

  Not necessarily having to use him in the 12th. That's part of my point. Bottom 11, 0-0, you throw out all situations and stats. Forget who is your "closer." Forget who usually gets the save, who usually gets the hold or who usually comes in when it's tied. You play to win THAT GAME, against a team, who was at the time, the team directly behind you in the wild card. A team who you will likely see in the playoffs. Instead, he played conservative and basically was resigned to the fact that it was now a bonus if they won that.
  
  I'm always one who believes you play to win today and take your hit on the odds of winning tomorrow. Oh, and look what happened after that loss? A crushing loss on Monday and a lackluster performance on Tuesday against a last place team. If you're a believer in momentum, it's possible that giving that game in LA away was worth 3 losses.

  I didn't say you had to use him in the 12th, just that you had to use him in the 12th if you took the lead in the 12th. You surely wouldn't put the same pitcher in for the bottom of the 12th to save the game that you are complaining that they put in in the 11th when it was only tied!

  That's my belief as well, but I'm convinced Dusty would not throw Chapman in the last game of the year just to make sure he's fresh for the start of the next season.

  I love to blame dusty for everything. But tonight, he had Chapman warming in the 8th and into the bottom of the 8th. He was ready and warm. I thought it was ok to use him. He needs work anyway. Hes pitches what 3 times in 11 or 12 days.
