  All the good bats out there arent going to cinci. Because the cards and pirates have better pieces to offer. Sounds like the cards may end up making a big deal though. Of course..

  I disagree. Prices seem very high. I don't see many teams willing to do what it takes. While that may hurt the Reds' chances because they lack prospects above A-ball, it also helps them because many other teams may not make moves after deciding they aren't worth the price at all. This would open the market up again for teams who would be willing to sacrifice a lot for that big deal, like the Reds could.
  
  I still maintain that Philly in a deal for Michael Young would be a good start. He could play 3B and bat 2nd, which is a dire need.
  
  Other than that, the Reds will go as far as Cueto, Ludwick, Marshall, Broxton and Hanigan take them. Get all 5 of them back and put Michael Young in the 2-hole, that team can win a title.
  
  Then again, that's SIX very big ifs that have to happen...

  I'd much rather have Partch or Simon attempting to save a game compared to never getting to our best chance to get to the next inning. If that happens in the playoffs I'm stabbing penguins.

  That won't change because that is his strategy on the road.....he might see an extra 2/3 of an inning in Sept though

  Maybe, but at some point in extra innings, everyone is available, even starters. Look at the last game in the Cubs' series, only a few days before Broxton went on the DL. According to Dusty, he was absolutely NOT available. Well, the 13th inning rolls around, 6 pitchers had been used and all of the sudden, Broxton is out there.
  
  What's a travesty is...remember the game before the All-Star break when the Reds were up 8-3 in Atlanta? Dusty felt it necessary to use Chapman THEN. On the flip side, he doesn't use him today in a game you just knew was going to end 1-0 Dodgers.
  
  This is where over the long haul of a season, you can pick apart this team's managerial decisions and just scream...

  Getting those players back will help, no doubt about that but I don't see them making much of a splash at the trade deadline. Also, I think Hanigan has lost his spot to Meseraco. Hannigan hasn't hit. I think it was last season that the pitcher's era when Mes was catching was a lot higher, but that was not the case now. We have just seen the torch passed from hannigan to Meseraco. It will be good to have him backup DM instead of corky.

  Dusty will always split meso and hanigan. Just his style. Likes 2 catchers splitting time.

  But I do agree that meso should be the #1 starter at catcher. He's been great lately.

  and I was going to add that I think Dusty may move hannigan back into the starting role because he is an old time guy, and sometimes that old thinking leads to not letting a player losing his starting position because of an injury. WHile I agree SL that they will split time, I think that DM should get the bulk of the time and the roles should be reversed. Unless you have an absolute stud behind the plate, I think it is wise to split time in some fashion. You need to give that backup catcher some time, especially when neither one is doing that much better. I tink the last stat I saw was that the Team ERA with DM was lower than RH
