Reds @ Braves...Game 2

I've gotta start the thread with this.

    http://cincinnati.com/blogs/reds/2013/07/11/baker-to-stick-with-cozart-in-the-no-2-spot/

    Dusty math and reasoning.

The question is not at what spot Cozart has a better average, it is at what spot he kills you the least.

Do you intersperse the weaker hitters between your best hitters to try to score a whopping amount of runs, but have them take you out of innings resulting in many games with very few runs? Or do you bunch your best hitters and put them up where they can get the most plate appearances and score some runs more consistently? I'm a proponent of the latter, and I'd like to see how this line-up would work:

    Choo
    Votto
    Phillips
    Bruce
    Frazier
    C
    P
    LF
    SS

Don't bat the P immediately before the best hitters and handicap them often when the P leads off the inning in the 9th spot. Also if the 8th spot leads off and gets on, then the SS bunts him over and Choo likely gets on bringing up Votto with two on and one out.

Lol'd, but sadly I'd be alright with that lineup

Not really wanting the pitcher to hit 7th....but one-upping LaRussa is always fun.
  • SportsAndLady
lol mhs you crack me up...batting the pitcher 7th?!

But at least you gave your reasons...Dusty just gives bullshit when asked why he has a guy not just with an average of .260 in the 2 hole, but an ON BASE PERCENTAGE of .260 in the 2 hole.

    Fucking delusional that guy is.

How bout just change the position order. Make LF the new #2 hitter. Can't be worse.
  • Ironman92
    Cozart batting 7th.....WTF

That lineup is actually what it SHOULD BE with those given players.

BJ pulled a "Ludwick" -- tried to slide, but dug too deep with his knee. Ludwick dug too deep with his shoulder.

Pretty nice first inning comes to an end with Cozart popping out swinging at the first pitch, fitting.
  • mhs95_06
Cozart out of the 2nd spot and all was well thru the 4th hitter -- just doing what they could. But the first pitch to Bruce showed he was trying to do too much, then he got a good breaking ball to hit and he wasted it, fouling it into the seats, then the DP that took the Reds out of a giant inning. Nevertheless the Reds got a 3rd run tonight, as opposed to not last night, when Frazier's scorched liner was played into a triple by BJ. But you can't fault BJ for going for it as the triple was no more consequential than a single -- it was the right thing to do to try for it.

Nice play be Freeman, then he immediately looks for someone to give an awkward man hug to.
  • Ironman92
Goodness....the pitcher, catcher and Jay Bruce were heading to the dugout. Lol
  • Ironman92
Big break for the Reds as Bruce doubles after the ump blew it.

Should I start every thread after I lose and then the next person loses.

    I'm 15-7 and we're up 4-0

In less than 2 games Atlanta has lost all 3 of their starting outfielders.....both Upton's out with leg injuries.
  • Ironman92
    McCann bomb....

    4-1
  • SportsAndLady
That's a horrible call lol wow
  • Ironman92
    I don't like Sam Holbrook.
  • Ironman92
    Chapman

    104 mph
    103 mph (4x)
    102 mph (3x)
    101 mph (3x)
    100 mph (2x)

    Yikes.
  • Ironman92
Freddie Freeman had one of the best at bats I have ever seen....lefty vs Chapman

    103, 104, 103 (fouled off), 102 up and in.....then goes and gets a 90 mph curve for a hit.
  • se-alum
Hmmm...the guy batting 2nd gets on base, and the Reds win. Back to Cozart in the two hole tomorrow.
  • se-alum
Also, was Chapman throwing a different pitch tonight? He threw one ball that had movement I've not seen from him. Possibly just a slider he didn't completely snap off.
