  After 26 years at ESPN, I am extremely disappointed to say farewell. I have been proud of my association and my work during my tenure. I was a loyal employee, displayed respect for others, worked with numerous charities, represented the company well. I always did everything asked of me and more. What did I get in return today … word that I should get lost. The only thing that mattered was my salary, which in my view was the lone reason I lost my job.
  
  This is the Schwab from their TV show.
  
  There seriously needs to be a competing network.

  BSPN has had massive lay offs recently. Mainly due to Disney wants ESPN to meet a certain profit margin.
  
  They've been purchasing Live rights all over the place and thus needed to lay off hundreds to continue to meet profit margin.

  Dude was inventive in so many way for ESPN. One of the true founders. We all know him for trivia...but that was the tip of his iceberg. Hopefully fox sports 1 picks him up when they launch their 24/7 sports station this summer

  Yea, they're clearly not worried about reputation, probably because there's not viable competitor. Thus they can do what they want, unfortunately. Hopefully FS1 is better than Fox Sports Net.

  I remember reading on deadspin a few weeks ago when they made their first round of layoffs. They lay off the regular employees, but they keep on these overpaid dipshits to speak on TV (stephen a smith), some who can't even speak english ( many acta), and one who is a murderer (ray lewis). ESPN is a joke.
  
  I never knew Schwab was a regular employee for ESPN though. I was wondering how he got that show.

  The problem is, those guys aren't really employees. They are more part-time employees or contractors. Stephen a probably makes most of his money from his NYC stuff.

  Stephen A makes sense as a journalist, but some of those guys are def are full time staff on ESPN.

  Too bad NBC Sports only shows white people stuff or ESPN would have to watch out. Maybe Fox does it right, maybe but no one is gonna compete with ESPN

  No one can touch ESPN right now, cause they have the rights to everything...so thats a no brainer. But no one complains about ESPN ACTUAL COVERAGE of sports.
  
  So Fox could easily compete with them as far as shows/daytime programming goes. They just have to hire the right people to host.
  
  MLB Tonight has surpassed ESPNs BBTN in a very short period. I think by year 3 they had the emmys and better ratings. Just takes a good, not rushed product and the willingness to spend for the talent that ESPN has hosting the shows.

  MLB Tonight, like the NFL Network, is supported by THE LEAGUE. This is the only thing that ESPN has really shown a flaw in, and it has slowly chipped away at their niche in those 2 sports in-particular.
  
  Both MLB and NFL Network are willing to discuss every team. While ratings are important, it's not the sole focus. They will show live games of all teams. During the offseason, they have whole days dedicated to just a single team and all of their doings.
  
  ESPN will take about 20% of their coverage and gear it toward what is relevant to the league, regardless of the names, markets or ratings. The rest is geared toward big markets, popular franchises, controversial and/or popular players and then their own agenda. Much of ESPN's programming, especially during the late-morning, mid-day is a bunch of mainstream, satirical garbage.
  
  As Laley said, when it comes to live games, whether it be NBA, MLB, NFL, college sports, soccer, etc...you name it. ESPN is the best.

  I agree about coverage, no one does it better especially when it comes to college football. They are amazing in that category IMO

  Fox sports one needs Dan Patrick and Jim Rome in the evenings to gain some popularity. Then they have to win some tv deals, but they could catch up to espn with the addition of a sports center type show with quality anchors.

  Jay Onrait and Dan O'Toole from TSN(Canadian ESPN and the two hosted their version of SportsCenter. When their hiring was announced, the Prime Minister of Canada about it. Pretty big deal).

  Regis Philbin, Andy Roddick, Jay Glazer.
  
  It will be an alternative to ESPN and I am more than ready for that. CBS Sports Network and NBCSN have tried and failed.

  And by the way, I am assuming that if you get the Speed Channel(Fox Sports 1) and Fuel(Fox Sports 2) then you are set with getting the new Fox Sports Channels. Same with Fox Soccer Channel turning into FXX(think FX comedy).

  Ya, it's going to take a while for anyone to match the broadcasting rights that ESPN has. But they can start taking with regard to non-sporting events with day time shows or how they choose to cover sports as a whole (i.e. not only focusing on big market teams, but covering professional sports leagues more equally as a whole if that's a viable long term strategy).
