The fence there is over 400 and that ball was 20 feet higher and 35+ feet over.
They suck. -

Can't believe you haven't commented on Howard's ridiculous slide at the plate that blew up so much dirt that he made the call impossible to actually see. -
Ironman92Choo missed his pitch!

wildcats20Just need Cozy to get on

Midstate01Im tired of losing in philly. Especially against them when they suck.

sherm03My streak of threads dies tonight.
Fucking Philly.
That call at the plate was terrible. And it gets me really mad that Dusty doesn't get so fired up that he gets tossed. He got a little madder than usual tonight. But he should have gone Sweet Lou style and gone crazy after that horseshit call. Show your team that you support them. Get tossed. Quit being a *****. -

Yes, Howard could easily have been injured, and out for the rest of the year after that effort. One of the few positives of ahead first slide is that your hand and arm has way more finess than your foot and leg at being able to touch the plate, so it is amazing that he tried to push thru Hanigan's foot, when he could have reached around instead. I wouldn't be surprised that his hand is smarting pretty good right now. You really put yousef at risk when you are a clumsy slider, like Votto! I was disturbed last night with Votto's head first slide. I guess Joey thinks that since he hurt himself going feet first last year, he will be better off going head first sometimes.Ironman92;1444736 wrote:Can't believe you haven't commented on Howard's ridiculous slide at the plate that blew up so much dirt that he made the call impossible to actually see. -

Never at any point saw anything conclusive on that Howard slide.....could've called it either way and I wouldn't argue. -

Hanigan blocked the plate perfectly and Howard slid right into his leg. It was an out...and the ump had a great view.Ironman92;1444774 wrote:Never at any point saw anything conclusive on that Howard slide.....could've called it either way and I wouldn't argue.

Terrible to make that call with such good position. At some point there needs to be reprocussions for such bad calls. -
Ironman92Fox needed 3 views and none of them showed that....dirt blew up when he slid and had to affect the ump's vision.
Full speed you couldn't tell crap with his hand....I can't believe he didn't get hurt as hard as it went in to Hanigan's foot. -

The ump was 3 feet away, he had to see Hanigan's leg in front of the plate. It was a bad call, pure and simple.Ironman92;1444789 wrote:Fox needed 3 views and none of them showed that....dirt blew up when he slid and had to affect the ump's vision.

You serious dude? There have been far closer calls than that. Hanigan had that plate blocked, and the ump could see that well before Howard was able to slide and kick up dust.Ironman92;1444789 wrote:Fox needed 3 views and none of them showed that....dirt blew up when he slid and had to affect the ump's vision.

karen lotzthat pic doesn't show that he's out, the tag hadn't been applied at that point. from the replays it looked like he tagged him on the upper arm, hand could have snuck in prior.

Can you explain how the hand "sneaks in prior" to the tag when Hanigan's leg is completely blocking the plate?karen lotz;1444795 wrote:that pic doesn't show that he's out, the tag hadn't been applied at that point. from the replays it looked like he tagged him on the upper arm, hand could have snuck in prior.
The only way Howard is safe on that play is if his right arm is able to touch before the tag. He didn't even attempt to touch with the right hand.
There's no sense arguing over it. It was an insurance run. Had the Reds scored one in the 9th, I'd be ready to blow something up over the call. But as it is...that just turns out to be a really terrible blown call, IMO. -
karen lotznot trying to argue, just saying the tag wasn't applied in that pic. just watched the replay again on mlbtv and with Hannigan falling away from Howard, it looks like he didn't tag him on the arm at all, and instead got him just above his hip. Howard's left arm is bent at the elbow and it appears his hand is on the plate.
what's amazing is that Howard didn't break all 4 fingers on that slide.
