Tribe @ Astros (Series Thread)

  • Laley23
Well, Houston is terrible, so a sweep would be nice.

Of course, they are saying the same thing about us hoping for a good series with a terrible team coming to town. So should be a toss-up lol.

Remember, Houston is central timezone so games start at 8pm, not 7.

    Myers v Harrell.. over/under 15 runs tonight?
  • HitsRus
^^^^will the real Brett Myers please stand up, please stand up.

Myers had a pretty good outing last time out....but an absolutely horrible spring which extended into his first two regular season appearances. If he can't give us a quality start against the 'stros, I'm gonna be thinking that the Tribe wasted $7 million.

Altuve is a solid all-around 2nd baseman. Even though the Astros must have an all-star per rules, Altuve is a legit consideration regardless...all 65 inches of him.
  • Ironman92
    Ankiel goes yard....he had like 14 K in 19 AB...but 3 HR

This is his last chance in the bigs IMO. One of my favorites to root for. He has one of the all-time great OF arms....also pitched as a teenager for the Cards before losing it.

Man, Stubbs really does suck, doesn't he.

It's my busiest time of the year and my Reds aren't atop my needs....but when they lose it doesn't hit me hard because I'm still happy as fuck that Dusty Baker doesn't have the ability to start and lead off Stubbs 155+ games a year.

I still can't fathom getting Choo for him.

You'll probably have a better handle on it next year.

Myers pitched well enough. Tribe hitters need a serious talking to about their approach at the plate....swinging at ridiculously poor pitches when in hitter's counts. Time to start earning your money Tito.

Scott Kazmir will make his first appearance in a major league game since 2011...and Indians debut, in front of his hometown fans.
He will be opposed by the Astro's Phil Humber (0-3, 2.89)

The Tribe skid has reached 5 games. Asdrubal Cabrerra has looked terrible at the plate...and his sub .140 batting average in the top of the lineup is a rally killer.
Despite having one of the fastest teams in MLB...the Indians have not used that weapon....at all...and have only 5 stolen bases in 15 games (Stubbs 2).
Jacoby Ellsbury of the RedSox has 7 SB's all by himself....and 2 other single players have as many as the Indians whole team( Jennings-Tampa Bay and Andears-Texas)
With an offense that struggles to score runs...you'd think we try to manufacture some.

In the "I have never understood this" department:
Why can't Major League players, who get paid lots of money to dedicate themselves to improving their game year round, lay down a routine bunt.? Last home series against Boston, the RedSox employed a ridiculous shift against a left handed batting Carlos Santana....there was only one player on the left side of the infield and that was the third baseman who was 5 feet to the left and BEHIND second base. I realize some power hitters are paid to hit home runs not bunt....but there are situations when you need baserunners...or just to move a base runner. I would think that managers would insist on it.
  • Crimson streak
Santana is usually pretty good hitting the opposite way too. That shift surprised me a bit

If Stubbs' career continues like it has, he'll be down to being about a .180-.185 hitter next year, since his average declines by 10-15 points per season. Fortunately, Francona is not Dusty, so he probably won't be starting every game by that point.
  • Laley23
I've often wondered what would happen if he just walked up and hit RH. Would anyone realize by the 1st pitch?? Then he doesn't even have to bunt, just pull the pitch

I actually don't mind Stubbs. Considering he's hitting 9th, play good defense and brings speed and some power to the back of the line up. As long as he hits .220 and 15 hrs and 20-30 sb's I call that a success out of the 9 hole

    I agree.

    I'm old.

^^^agree with Crimson on this. Stubbs is not the problem. Cabrerra and Kipnis batting below the Mendoza line is. Kipnis did have a good nite at the plate last nite...maybe he's coming out of it. Bourne out of the lineup has hurt too. Brantley, after a hot start has been in a slump. Reynolds and Swisher have been good for the most part, although both had chances with game winning/changing at bats on the line....and both failed, taking a poor approach to the plate and getting themselves out.

In Swish's case, (with him being the tying run at the plate late in the game against Boston) he struck out trying to pull the ball and jack a HR. Boston just kept the ball away.
Last nite Reynolds was in a hitter's count with 2 on late in the game...and swung at a shit pitch grounding into a DP.

...just terrible at bats from guys the team counts on:(
  • GOONx19
Everyone but Carlos with a hit in the 2nd innning. Thirteen so far.
  • royal_k
    LOL. Who is this team?
  • Ironman92
Well....I just turned over to witness something kinda potentially historic, so sorry Tribe fans...you may not score anymore.

Guessing a Cribbs punt return for TD and a Haden pick 6.
  • Ironman92
Lol....Maybe I turned over for the biggest comeback ever. A 3 run HR by 2 inches and now a bloop by Altuve
  • Ironman92
Carlos with an impressive CS getting Altuve and then leads off with a Hr.
  • IggyPride00
Too bad they don't have a layaway program for runs scored that would have allowed us to distribute this 15 spot over the next 3 or so games instead of 3 innings.
  • BRF
Just thought I'd break up Ironman's 4 post streak.

    Go Tribe!

Don't let them get any more runs.

  • Ironman92
Here come the Stros....like their new uni's
  • vball10set
The Tribe will lose this one :(
