It's Official: Mike Holmgren to Cleveland
-
devil1197I was told according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Mike Holmgren will be the President of Football Operations for the Cleveland Browns.
-
derek bomarlink?
-
devil1197Trying to find an article on it but no luck yet.
Anyone watching ESPN at all? I was told by a family member that Schefter reported on ESPN about it? -
devil1197Mangini is having a presser at 2:30 which could be just his normal one.
-
devil1197Watched the clip, Schefter reported that its locked up but it hasn't been made public.
-
charliehustle14Nothing on Schefter's twitter.
-
devil1197Charlie, what Schef and Mortensen are saying is that its already been done but it just "when" will it be announced.
A big step in the right direction for Cleveland. He will have two solid weeks to evaluate the team and coaches. A head start on finding a GM and then decided what to do with Mangini because it hasn't been stated 100% whether or not he will fire Mangini. -

SQ_CraziesNot sure how anyone CAN'T support Mangini. Wayyyy too early to pull the plug on him. The fact that his team never gave up all year tells me all I need to know. Just have to weed out some bad eggs--Jamal Lewis being the prime example and that's taking care of itself.
-
devil1197Yeah, with the roster we had and then the injuries piled on top you knew Cleveland was going to be a 1-5 win team.
Give Mangini another year with Holmgren and a solid GM.
Mortensen says he may wait until the holidays are over to announce it. -
SQ_CraziesAnother year? He's going to need more than that. Any Browns fan that REALLY wants to see them turn it around needs to lay off him and see what happens for a couple years. I think Mangini is a good coach.
-
jordo212000Lewis probably needs to go. You can't be a team leader while at the same time complaining about the length and rigor of practice. How weak is that?
On the other hand, I expect Mangini to go. The guy is a tool, doesn't get a long with anybody, and his coaching style doesn't work in 2009 -
devil1197
I say another year because what happens if Cleveland goes 0-16, 1-15, or 2-14? Not sure I want to see a decline in W's considering we should have more of a foundation next season.SQ_Crazies wrote: Another year? He's going to need more than that. SQ_CraziesBut no one can expect the playoffs from them next year--so what difference does it make really if you don't make the playoffs? A foundation isn't built in a year with the way they're going to have to go about building it. IMO, they're on the right track, it's just going to take a few years. I don't see this team being anything special for another 3-4 years. I know some Browns fans don't want to wait that long, but if you don't and they keep cycling in new coaches the same cycle is going to keep repeating.
-
devil1197I don't expect the playoffs along with every other Browns fan on this board but if you think 0-16, 1-15, or 2-11 is an acceptable year then that's crazy. Cleveland could end the season with 3-5 wins, anything less than that next year and Mangini will be on the hot seat.
Were not asking for anything special next season but it looks like we will have the same talent at most position with a pretty good chance for upgrades at some key positions. There is no reason for a decline in wins next season, its not acceptable for any team. -
SQ_CraziesWhat makes Mangini a bad coach to the average Browns fan? I'm seriously asking, I'm not a Browns fan but I have yet to really hear an explanation.
-
NateAt first, I wasn't a fan on Mangini. I'm slowly liking what I see. The team I think is finally starting to see the big picture and the people who want to play are playing (no more Lewis, please leave already). It's nice to go in every week and know who the quarterback is going to be. This Quinn vs. Anderson thing was getting old and making things 100x harder than it actually was.

MulvaA poor draft, not getting enough back from trades, awful free agent signings (St. Clair, Poteat, Womack, Royal, etc.), throwing Kokinis under the bus, rubbing players the wrong way (the rookie training camp thing, the Rogers thing, unloading Edwards and Winslow, the hotel water bottle incident), agents actively steering players away from Cleveland because of him, totally mishandling the QB situation in training camp/pretty much all year, a complete stubbornness to admit he is wrong/change his way of doing things (reminds me of Eric Wedge in that regard), his track record with the Jets (specifically the meltdown in 2008), and lack of results on the field.
Good enough list? -

i think so! in the NFL now, you don't need three or four years to turn a team around. it can happen over night. dolphins 1-15 to 11-5 afc east champs in 08, look at the ravens and falcons.Mulva wrote: A poor draft, not getting enough back from trades, awful free agent signings (St. Clair, Poteat, Womack, Royal, etc.), throwing Kokinis under the bus, rubbing players the wrong way (the rookie training camp thing, the Rogers thing, unloading Edwards and Winslow, the hotel water bottle incident), agents actively steering players away from Cleveland because of him, totally mishandling the QB situation in training camp/pretty much all year, a complete stubbornness to admit he is wrong/change his way of doing things (reminds me of Eric Wedge in that regard), his track record with the Jets (specifically the meltdown in 2008), and lack of results on the field.

he rubbed some players the wrong way in the beginning and those who didn't like it could gtfo...and it's worked. The team is playing hard and recently winning with sub-par talent. Give him the next draft and off-season and if we see a shitty product next year, good bye. But it's far to soon to write him off.Mulva wrote: A poor draft, not getting enough back from trades, awful free agent signings (St. Clair, Poteat, Womack, Royal, etc.), throwing Kokinis under the bus, rubbing players the wrong way (the rookie training camp thing, the Rogers thing, unloading Edwards and Winslow, the hotel water bottle incident), agents actively steering players away from Cleveland because of him, totally mishandling the QB situation in training camp/pretty much all year, a complete stubbornness to admit he is wrong/change his way of doing things (reminds me of Eric Wedge in that regard), his track record with the Jets (specifically the meltdown in 2008), and lack of results on the field.

royal_kI hope Holmgren looks at the way this team has not quit and is playing at a much better level than earlier in the year. With the lack of talent at key positions and the numerous injuries, I don't see how you don't give Mangini another year. I don't want to start over again. It's obvious this team wants to play for him or they would have quit a long time ago. Bring in a good OC and leave the rest alone. With a good draft and a couple FA signings they will compete. Hell, they already are.
-
just_a_swimmerI sure would like to see Ryan stick around for another year.
-
devil1197Holmgren will not be coaching the Browns, some said that was a possibility but Schefter has stated Holmgren will just be strictly FO.

I agree.just_a_swimmer wrote: I sure would like to see Ryan stick around for another year.
Right now, he has no talent playing. -
CitybuckThings could interesting in Cleveland, I wonder what Free Agents Mike Holmgren will go after ?
