NLDS Cincinnati Reds @ San Francisco Giants...Game 1

  I don't mind Bronson in the rotation. I think he goes a solid 7 giving up 3 or 4. Homer has been much better lately but I still think he's the one more capable of getting hammered.

  If I remember right, the Reds hit Cain pretty hard when they faced him in the regular season and also when facing Baumgardner, as long as Arroyo keeps them in it I think the Reds lineup can hit him too since we only have Votto and Bruce as our only LH bats. I think things will be fine...but I'd feel better if it were Cueto-Latos in SF.

  I didn't see much of the game last night. I am guessing from the written play by play that this is the runner who reached on what was ruled an infield hit with one out in the 8th, who ended up scoring the only run of the game. If that is true, it looks like he may have been safe because the "gold glove 1st baseman" didn't use very good footwork to properly minimize the time the throw was in the air by taking the inside corner of the bag and stretching toward the throw! Instead of there being two out and none one, the batter reached and the score ensued.

  Pardon my ignorance, but why as the 2 seed do the Reds open in San Fran? The NHL's in their 2nd lockout in less than a decade, yet Bud Seilig remains the most incompetent commissioner ever...

  Two games in San Francisco and then three in Cinci to close it out. Reds still have home field advantage. That's how all of the division series are played this year because of the second wild card being added. The wc was added after the regular season and world series schedules were set so there wasn't any room for travel days and the extra game.

  Which is still a big bunch of shit. Baseball is 162 games, I'm pretty sure there's enough time to switch days up and travel time. Baseball teams travel to deifferent cities all the time, through different time zones. I think they can handle it. Plus it SHOULD be the perk of having the better records, the other teams are SUPPOSED to be at a disadvantage...

  Pretty nervous about this matchup. Reds did beat Cain back in July but on the back of a leadoff homer by Cozart and dinger by Mike Leake of all people.
  
  Reds will have to win this game 2-1. Good thing is the San Francisco defense is pretty lousy. Moving Posey to first didn't improve anything and up the middle they have issues. Got to put pressure on them in all facets, they will kick the ball around if so.
  
  The regular season is over, post season is here. Have to do the little things to win. Offensive struggles are what they are, but in the post season all at bats are a grind. I am more worried about the youth in the bullpen than I am the offense in October. Jose Arredondo seems to be a gas can when pressure is on him and if the Reds get to 7-8-9 with a lead, the stress will surely test our untested pitchers.

  I agree that defense may be the most important difference in the series. And fair calling of balls and strikes.

  The #1 key aspect to determine how far the Reds go in the postseason is DEFENSE. If they play air tight defense giving no extra outs they can go a long way. I'm assuming their offense will be pretty poor, and it will be helped some by the opponents. Also, their pitching can not blow up which is some concern to me. The good defense has to handle well the problems that happen this time of year with the low sun and game times that are not the best for seeing the ball well, like the 5:37 game Tuesday, and the crowd noise. And baserunning errors could be bad news for the Reds also.

  Playoff baseball has a different feel. It's awesome. Every out is magnified. I actually think this favors the Reds a bit as they have been there before and have a veteran team, veteran manager and for the most part, take an "all business" approach. Guys like Votto and Latos are no BS guys. They also have a very strong bullpen, which is the one factor that can control a series unlike anything else.
  
  I'm pumped too. Much more than in 2010, only because then it still sort of felt like a surprise. This team expects to win the World Series and given the landscape of the MLB, their chances are as good as any.

  Maybe could have had Frazier in there too, but I guess he's sending out his veteran lineup, although just as easily put Heisey in CF.
