NBA Will Try to Stop the Flopping

  • Prescott
The NBA will penalize flopping this season, fining players for repeated violations of an act a league vice president says has "no place in our game." Players will get a warning the first time, then be fined $5,000 for a second violation. The fines increase to $10,000 for a third offense, $15,000 for a fourth and $30,000 the fifth time. Six or more could lead to a suspension.
The league said Wednesday that flopping will be defined as "any physical act that appears to have been intended to cause the referees to call a foul on another player."
"The primary factor in determining whether a player committed a flop is whether his physical reaction to contact with another player is inconsistent with what would reasonably be expected given the force or direction of the contact," the NBA said in a statement.
"Flops have no place in our game -they either fool referees into calling undeserved fouls or fool fans into thinking the referees missed a foul call," vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson said.

If this works I hope the NCAA will look at it closely and come up with a plan that will stop the flopping in college.

I dont like it. Its part of the game. Isnt it the referees job to make the subjective calls like that?

    You're 2 weeks too late.

But when he is clearly talking about Duke, does it really matter?

I'm personally not a fan of "mega-threads" that you have to wade through. So this topic being posted elsewhere isn't an issue... it's called organization. A mega-thread is basically a run on sentence.

As for this topic, I'm glad it's happening. Flopping has no part in sports. It's called competition. You play to be the best at the activity. Flopping is an unfortunate side effect referees/officials. There is nothing impressive or honorable about flopping. It only has a negative impact on the game and if it is allowed to go on unchecked it brings everyone down to the lowest common ground.

Of course you are not a fan. You are out of touch with all of Ohio Chatter. There is a reason why you are not a good mod.

Mega threads are good for keeping F4F out then? Good to know. Time to turn this whole forum into one mega thread, or...."run on sentence".

LOL, reps when I can. Unfortunately he will still try and poke his head in the mega cleveland threads and get in our way with his excessive moderating.

I dont want him to be left out, so I made some more flopping threads for him in the basement.

I didn't realize moderators were not allowed to have opinions contrary to the posters? It's not like I unilaterally lock down threads or do anything about it. I just personally don't think they're as practical. And I see nothing wrong with starting a separate thread for a separate issue.

    On topic pls.

Flopping sucks....James Harden will be at the $30,000 by the 2nd quarter of the 1st game.

C4F please get back on topic.

Apparently, Blake Griffin thinks this rule is just a money grab.

As he prepares to say goodbye to a lot of his money.
  • Rotinaj
Yea griffin is gonna get suspended multiple times. I'm glad too, guys a douchebag.

I'm interested about the implementation. Will defensive or offensive flopping be more scrutinized? Will it be only the worst of the worst or some of the questionable stuff as well? Is unnecessary flailing of the arms considered flopping?

I don't understand, you mean guys windmilling their arms but not falling down? Players do that (I havent seen it) or you mean it could be the new next thing to draw fouls?

I'm talking about when a player is shooting, he gets slightly touched then his arms fly all over the place like he was just shot while on a roller coaster.

Its going to cause too much controversy, IMO. Why cant the refs just crack down on flopping by calling a foul if its on defense or calling nothing if an offensive player does it? The problem should be dealt with like it is in soccer, not the NFL.
  • Ironman92
I say the flailing of the arms when the offensive player is driving to shoot, gets the ball stripped and does that ridiculous motion with their arms as if they thought they still had the ball.
  • Tiernan
ohhh Flopping...I thought you said Flapping...nobody could possibly stop that in the NGBA*

I have an idea. Refs call a foul when there is a foul. They do not call a foul when there is not a foul. Flopping is not a foul, it's an attempt to draw a false foul. Quit calling the flops a foul and they'll stop flopping.

This type of rule would completely eliminate the lulz factor for soccer.
