Is Steve Smith (Panthers) HOF?

  • ernest_t_bass
Below are his numbers. Over 10k rec yards, and only 5 active players (according to nfl network) above 10k.

He's pretty good but the Giants made the Panthers look bad tonight.

    Double digit td's once.

If they put in an average player at best in Lynn Swann, no doubt Steve Smith deserves voted in.

Considering Lynn Swann is HoF, no doubt Steve Smith deserves voted in.

i think he had the talent but never played with a good qb

If he's in, there are 10-15 others in his era who are in. Those who think Smith is in, should consider Chad Johnson a lock.

Lets be real here. Comparing today's WR numbers to what they were even 10 years ago is still. If you put smith in, you basically make a legit case for all of these guys, who played in the last 10-15 years.

    Derrick Mason
    Torry Holt
    Chad Johnson
    Marvin Harrison
    Reggie Wayne
    Jimmy Smith
    Anquan Boldin
    Larry Fitzgerald
    Andre Johnson
    Keyshawn Johnson
    Donald Driver
    Joey Galloway
    Terrell Owens
    Randy Moss
    Keenan McCardell
    Muhsin Muhammad
    Rod Smith
    Hines Ward
    Isaac Bruce
    Santana Moss
    Tim Brown

I'm not even including some of the younger guys who will be in this group in 2-3 years. Wes Welker, Calvin Johnson, Brandon Marshall, Marques Colston, Greg Jennings, Dwayne Bowe, Santonio Holmes, etc...

While many from this list will get serious consideration and some will make it, including all of them would be too many. The list only gets stronger and bigger as many of these guys are still actively adding to their totals.

As of today, there are only 12 WR's in the hall of fame...

This is what I was thinking as well. Does he not belong in the HOF b/c he was on a crappy team?

Without knowing the numbers of the most recent WR inducted I'm gonna say no.
  • Iliketurtles
Nope he has been good but not HoF worthy.
  • Azubuike24
    Most recent WR's in.

    Jerry Rice, 2010
    Art Monk, 2008
    Michael Irvin, 2007

Lets throw Rice out and compare the other 2, who some would consider "borderline."

    Irvin, 750 catches, 11904 yards, 65 TD, 5 Pro Bowls, 1 consensus All-Pro, 3 Super Bowls
    Monk, 940 catches, 12721 yards, 68 TD, 3 Pro Bowls, 1 consensus All-Pro

He'd be in the hall of very good.

    Randy Moss- yes

    My opinions within the quote.

No he will not get in. You have to factor in the other guys at other positions that he (and the other WRs) will be going up against.

The NFL HOF is also a fairly exclusive club. They aren't all of the sudden going to have 50 WR's in by 2025...

Exactly. As I said factor in the great players who are still waiting to get in, plus add the guys who are currently playing (or just retired) that these WRs will have to go up against. Good luck competing with the likes of Brady, Manning, Ray Lewis, Troy Polamulu, Ed Reed, Orlando Pace, Cris Carter, etc.

without looking at the numbers i would think TO is in

What does this have to do with the HoF? Its not won or earned on night to night basis. Come on Man!

Also Cris Carter has to go in first. Joke that he's not in it already.
  • Laley23
Not a chance. Only WR I think of right now who are locks are Marvin Harrison, Terrell Owens and Randy Moss. Also throw in Cris Carter. No way does Smith get in before a plethora of guys who are ahead of him and still well behind those 4.
  • Azubuike24
Tim Brown is in before many of these guys too. He was so consistent. Played 16 full years in the NFL, 15 of the 16 played 16/16 games and his last year he played 15/16. Over 1000 catches, nearly 15000 yards and 1 of 6 WR's ever with 100+ TD's. If he played today, he'd be well ahead of most of that list.

Lol I know. That was more of just a frustration poke because I switched my pick to the Panthers in my $ pick em league.
