Reds VS Phillies...Game 3

  • Rotinaj
Bout damn time Votto returns. Today's lineup 1-6 is the best in baseball. To bad we probably won't ever see it again.
    Phillips
    Heisey
    Votto
    Ludwick
    Bruce
    Frazier
    Navarro
    Gregorius
    Leake

I like giving Cozy back to back days off...keep Hanny fresh all month and I think Luddy could use a couple days off in a row. Rolen needs 4-5 games off in a row...maybe defensive replacement late. His shoulder seems to be acting up.

Who is Gregorius? A prospect brought up to get a little MLB seasoning or a AAAA guy brought up just to give regulars an occasional day off while they get ready for the playoffs?
  • Rotinaj
I don't follow the minors very closely. I have no idea who he is.

Prospect. Pretty good hitter with a good glove and cannon arm. I could see him taking over for BP eventually, if not beating out Cozart.

BTW, Cozart is hurt, that's why Didi is getting the start.

The reds don't have a AAAA team

    Cozart....stiff back

    Leake blows.

    Phillies 4-0

Roy Halladay is 109-0 in his career with a 4 or more run lead.
  • baseballstud24
    He's 256-0 when it's 6-0

Yeah, but he doesn't have as good a record when he's up by six. Maybe the Reds should let him get up by 12 so their odds get a bit better!

I don't know, the current Phils and Cards are pretty tough.
  • Rotinaj
Yea I was probably exaggerating a little but it's definitely top 5. When they decide not to blow that is.

Leake should never pitch against Philly. Ever.

    via Mark Sheldon:
In 5 career starts vs. PHI, Leake has 9.33 ERA (28 ER, 27 ip). #reds

    Reds lose 6-4.

Does Votto have enough time left to qualify for a batting title?

Looking at it quickly, probably not. He needs 133 more plate appearances to qualify, 25 games left including today. He'll need to average 5.5 PAs a game of he is in the lineup every day.

Thanks. Hadn't heard of him before seeing the name in the line-up, so was interested.

Meant it in the slang sense where "AAAA" stands for those guys who kick ass in the minors, but are exposed in the majors, so they end up being AAA superstars who only get in the bigs when the parent club needs a replacement utility guy for a few days.

Gregorius is a legit prospect. At least he is a legit defensive prospect. Don't know much about his bat.

They do the "add plate appearances until they qualify" thing but it looks like he'll still be 30+ appearances away so his avg would take a significant hit.

A pet peeve of mine is people who call for consistency in sports play. That is not the key. This series, the Reds score 2 runs in each game, all RBIs by Bruce, and Bruce gets a HR in each game. And what does it get them, one win out of 3 games! And the only game they won, they were very fortunate with umps calls, and the fortunate situation on the double play to get out of the only inning in which the Phils scored with just one run.

Votto will need to get to about .375 to have a chance....but I bet he's out at least 5 games making him needing about .396
