2012 U.S. Open (Tennis)

It's a little early, but with the news of Rafa Nadal withdrawing cause of his knee I figured I'd get it tarted now. This really opens up the draw for whoever gets put into that bracket (I assume Jo-Willy will be the 4 seed).

And not to start this discussion full fledged again, but this is why I don't see Nadal breaking a ton more records. He will be done playing by age 30 with those knees. Completely unlike Fed, who didn't put his body through hell and is still at a VERY high level.

As for the tourney. Would love to see Donald Young or Ryan Harrison make a move to the 2nd week. Would also be great to see Fish in Tsongas bracket with an outside chance at the semis.

My thoughts exactly. Although, just curious, what did Nadal do to put his body through hell? Is it his playing style?

I like Nadal cause he's a lefty - but if not for clay courts we would not be having a discussion about him breaking records. You could say the same about Federer on grass, but he also has multiple titles on other surfaces...i think Nadal has 7 (some ridiculous amount) of French Opens.

Yeah. So much strain on his legs with the way he plays. Its commendable, that he never gives up, but he just runs so hard and ungracefully lol. Nothing he does is fluid, and his knees have been an obvious target for concern since he came up.

Andy Roddick is gonna retire following the tournament

I'm not surprised. Roddicks best years are behind him. Great career he will be in the tennis hall of fame some day

WOW, he must have burnt out. He is only 30.

30 is ancient in tennis years. He has been professional for like 12-13 years.

Yeah I realize that, but he is still pretty competitive.

Would you rather play the Gerry weber open for the 14 time or go home and bang Brooklyn Decker?

    Both?

Roddick has a career outside of tennis, imo. Not surprised he is leaving. He had maybe 2 years left.

I liked Roddick glad he got his grand slam when he did.

I would even say he'd only have 1 good year left... injuries have killed him lately. Always wished he could have won more grand slams but he has done a lot to help out the younger American tennis players. Hopefully he can have one last great run and make it and win another US Open.

I really felt bad when he lost the 2009 Wimbledon final to Roger in that epic 5 set final. He just hasn't been the same sense

Heading to tiebreaker in Roddicks first set with Del Potro.
Be a tough one to get thru for Roddick.
  • gerb131
And Sharapova is getting waxed by Bartoli and she is single. Sasha Vujacic ( in my best Stephen A) couldnt hang on to that.

    PPD til tmrw

Roddick blew a 5-2 lead in the first. If he doesnt win the breaker when they resume, he is gonna kick himself for life (as I dont see him winning the match if he losses it).

Always thought Kim Clijsters had a nice little rack.

    Nice win by Serena today.
The Djoker vs Murray come on Novak.

Anyone else not having their CBS show the match? Dr. Phil re-run? Really?

I had to watch it after it was finished. I woke up expecting to be able to watch that final before football started. Whoever did that was just dumb.
