Worst Contracts in MLB

  • BigAppleBuckeye
What are the worst contracts in MLB history? I will start ... the one and only JASON BAY:

    4 year contract -- $66 million

In 2 1/2 seasons with the Mets, check out these TOTAL numbers:

    1,017 AB
    217 hits
    .244 BA
    23 HR
    112 RBI
    118 runs
    23 SB

Does Barry Zito still have the same contract? That is/was a horrible contract. Carl Pavano's contract he had with the Yankees was horrible as well.

Also, anything over $0 is a horrible contract for Grady Strikemore.
  • OneBuckeye
Grady's resigning in the offseason has to be one of the 10 top worst FA deals of all time. Stupid.

I agree w it being Zito in hindsight but he was a beast when he first got that contract.

That's a good point. Are we taking worst in retrospect/hindsight, or bad from the minute they signed it?

    Thus far, Carl Crawford.

    7 years, $142 million.

In 137 games with the Red Sox over the last two seasons:

.256 BA, .689 OPS, 21 stolen bases. Wat.

Brian Cardinal, Gilbert Arenas and Rashard Lewis's contracts come to mind in the NBA.

In the NFL, JaMarcus Russell's and LeCharles Bentley's contracts are up there.

Signing Pujols to 10 years. He's on pace for 30hr this year....clearly worth 254m.
  • End of Line
Vernon Wells. 7yrs/126mil and it's back loaded.

Barry Larkin's 3 year, 27 milllion dollar deal at the end of his career was pretty crappy. Even at the time many chastised it and pretty much was stated it was more of a "thank you" for what you have done instead of looking fwd for what he will do type of deal.
  • thavoice
Griffey's deal with Cincy was kinda bad too, but who knew he would get injured and some even said he took a home town discount with his deal.

What I didnt like about it was the deferred money. Would that money come into play and hinder the team down the road?

Well we were discussing OSU Mich football rivalry and you brought up the ACC. Not much of an assumption at all. Your comment wouldnt even make sense if I weren't to assume football.

Duke vs UNC is a great football rivalry isn't it? And did the thread say football rivalries? Not my fault you assumed the thread was about football. I mentioned Duke/UNC before you even commented in the thread, but if you assumed that was a football rivalry then that's a you problem.

Dunn had the worst season ever last year but looking at 45 HR 114 RBI this year.

Wells is awful, Soriano's was so long and $$$$.

Kevin Brown had a nightmare one after his big steroid years. Mo Vaughn Mets?

    Pavano's was awful.

    Derek Bell?
