Rolen is losing it on defense too!
  • mhs95_06
Meso takes half a beat longer than Hanigan to make the transfer and cock his arm - no contest with Homer pitching and the baserunner's jump.
  • mhs95_06
Defensive bobble didn't cost a run, but cost Homer 6 extra pitches with way more than that being under more stressful circumstances than there would have been had Rolen made that play!

No one gets on in the first for the Reds, but at least they have three 6 pitch ABs.

Bailey's pitch count in much better shape with the two 1,2,3 innings. But why after getting Weeks 0-2 does he have to wait until it goes to 3 balls before he gets something to happen, that's 3 balls in a row! And in the first and Aoki, why does he wait until 3-1 to challenge the hitter the same way he could have done on the 1-1 pitch when Aoki would have been expecting it less. He still gets away with it with a foul on the 3-1, and then gets lucky on the 3-2 K by the ump.

But they lose their discipline in the 2nd when both Bruce and Rolen ground out on 1-0 pitches. If you swing at 0-0, you should have a hit on 40% of the swings, 45% of the swings on the 1-0, and 50% of the swings on 2-0, 70% of the swings on 3-0. If you are not up to that level, you are swinging too much on those counts!

After 4, Homer down to 13.5 pitches per inning average with another 3 batter inning, this time on the 3,4,5 hitters with a nice DP ball off the bat of Ramirez.

The HR streak continues at GABP.

Does GABP have the longest streak yet of any MLB park?
  • mhs95_06
The two slumpers have the first two hits for the Reds, both EBH.

Coors Field has the longest all time streak with 80.

I think the ump made the correct fair call, albeit un-popular with the home team on the double over the bag!
  • mhs95_06
Great job by Homer to get a zero in the 6th inning after the one out, 8 pitch, lucky 2nd hop double by Maldonado.
  • mhs95_06
Another bugaboo lead-off double by the Reds! Lets see if they can break the jinx!
  • Terry_Tate
What a hustle play by Rolen. Love seeing the old guy be aggressive.
  • mhs95_06
Frazier hit it hard, but didn't move the runner!
  • mhs95_06
But then the WP gets Rolen to 3B - good baserunning so far by Ludwick, and pressure on Meso. Pressure could soon go on Homer!
  • mhs95_06
Meso failed on my 70% rule on 3-0 swings!
  • mhs95_06
The jinx continues, and Homer has to lead-off the 6th, unless he blows up in the 6th, and Rolen's baserunning turns sour. I have no problem trying it, but as Rolen approaches the plate and sees how the catcher is reacting, why can't he slide to the inside of the plate? He'd have been safe if he would have.
  • Terry_Tate
    Homer making dudes look bad.
  • mhs95_06
Homer making some great pitches as he gets thru the 6th on 89 pitches and no runs. Tat 2-2 that K'd Braun was nasty.

The catcher's set up was much closer than the travel of the ball....he nabbed it and got him by 2 inches.

I agree if he goes more inside he likely makes it....but how many players on the Reds get to second on the hit....and how many would've went from 2nd to 3rd....Rolen was textbook in getting to 3rd...I guarantee he was gassed and it may not have affected his speed from 3rd to home but it may have affected his vision. I think he was trying to be as fast as he could without thought of plate surroundings.

It was all or nothing and that's how he went about it.....and had to with Homer up next.
