Reds vs D'bags.....Game 3

se-alumGotta wonder how long Jacoby continues to hold a job in Cincy. This team is where it's at because of pitching, but you can't expect them to hold up like they did in the first half. Our plate approaches are dismal for the most part. Would love to get a legit hitting coach in here for these guys that obviously have the potential.

I agree with that. I watch enough Reds games to see that while guys like Votto and Phillips have generally done very well, a lot of guys just seem to have stagnated (at best) at levels where you'd think there'd be lots of room for improvement. Stubbs has regressed from his rookie year and Bruce never has evolved from being a super-streaky guy who alternates between being a home run machine and an offensive liability with no warning. And with as many young/youngish guys in prominent roles, you'd think they would want someone who could strengthen their weaknesses.se-alum;1229049 wrote:Gotta wonder how long Jacoby continues to hold a job in Cincy. thavoiceI still have hope that Bruce will become less streaky. I think he will still get those super hot streaks...but not cool down as much.
STubbs......I dont like to give up on guys but geesh...he has regressed each of the last two seasons. He struck out alot in the minors as well......think his natural ability has been exhausted and now he needs to do something drastic to change his whole approach. If you are gonna strike out at a Dunn-esqu rate then you better be hitting 35+ HR. -

Thing with Stubbs is, he's never showed alot of promise. I mean, look at his stats since being drafted. You can't pick out any numbers that say, "this guy has what it takes". If it weren't for his legs, he would've been a career minor leaguer.thavoice;1229081 wrote:I still have hope that Bruce will become less streaky. I will disagree JUST a little.se-alum;1229129 wrote:Thing with Stubbs is, he's never showed alot of promise. I mean, look at his stats since being drafted. You can't pick out any numbers that say, "this guy has what it takes". If it weren't for his legs, he would've been a career minor leaguer.
He always was a K victim, but if you look at his first full year in the bigs in hitting 22 jacks and around .255 I think that gave alot of people a chubby for a bit. I think many had misguided thoughts that he would change his trend as a pro and K less.
SInce then he has regressed, and that really is a telling sign.
STubbs cannot be what this team needs him to be, and that is a top of the order guy who gets on base. He just isnt that guy. IF the reds had a good leadoff man, if cozart could be that guy, and a solid LF or 3B, then they could afford to have a guy like him roaming CF and not hitting a ton.
