Most Overrated Game/Happening

  • Ironman92
The Giants Win the Pennant. The Giants win the pennant.....it was great and climatic....but it was to go to the World Series.

Carlton Fisk Game 6 HR....like Joe Morgan says the Red Sox won that series 3 games to 4.

Jordan's winner over Cleveland....is was great and an awesome site...but overrated.

Willie Mays catch.....he ran 21 impressive strides and whirled and threw the ball back in....there was zero threat of a fence. Nyger Morgan ran 21 strides last night from RCF to LCF and caught it full speed right at the collision of the fence....better catch and I guarantee Mays had a dozen better catches considering difficulty.

My first thought was Fisk's homerun as well. Yeah, it won a game in the WS. What made it popular was how he was motioning for the ball to stay fair. If he handnt done that, or hit one out to to a diff field then it wouldnt have been so famous.

I disagree with your mention of the Giants though.

Any sort of act that beats cleveland, in any sports......cannot be overrated!!!!!!!

Bama/LSU isn't touted by anyone as being a great game/moment. The ones Ironman listed are considered epic in baseball.

I put games also in the title but the baseball ones are monster compared to that happening

Apparently you didn't watch TV for the month leading to it.

Leading up has nothing to do with what peoples thoughts are after a moment/game lol.

No one thinks it was a good game.

That's different. College football is under the microscope all year. No matter what, it's going to be covered a ton. However, the game will be forgotten for many, just as many other lopsided or mismatched title games were. Never will it be referred to as epic.

A few others I'll add. Reggie Miller's comeback against the Knicks. Great sequence, even bigger stage, but a lot had to do with Reggie's personality, Spike Lee and the fact that it was New York. After all, it wasn't even the conference finals and it was a game 1.

Eight points in eight seconds to lead your team back from a six-point deficit in the closing moments on the road in the NBA Playoffs in New York in the most famous arena in the world is, no matter how you look at it, epic. Especially considering it took the Pacers the full seven to overtake the Knicks in that series. Reggie was so great.

A small caveat being that I am probably the biggest Reggie Miller fan in the galaxy.

I think the Reggie game gets it's deserved due....it's not a top the highlight reels (Willis Reed) but being a ta do with an NY team.....

The question is most overrated game. Maybe I confused the notoriety that stretch gets as opposed to the game. I would NOT call that an overrated moment. Not at all. I would not call it an overrated collapse, it absolutely was. Overrated game, in-context of the series and round of the playoffs, absolutely.

If anything it's underrated. It's also the most watched sporting event in the world.

Doesn't that make it perfectly, accurately rated?
  • GOONx19
Underrated in the U.S., accurately throughout the rest of the world.

Help me understand this. If people in the US aren't watching it as compared to the rest of the world, are not the tv ratings accurate in the interest in the event?
  • Azubuike24
The World Cup is underrated in the US, but that's a direct correlation with soccer being very accurately rated and the US team being very average. People really don't care about soccer. It's at-best, the 6th most popular sport in this country. With newer generations, it's even lower.

When the World Cup rolls around, people generally don't get excited for it like they do for a Super Bowl, World Series or NBA Finals. It's even lower than a Golf major or a big Nascar race. It's getting bypassed by UFC fights too.

If people don't care about it how is it underrated at 6th most popular?

What is it you are using to base your rating on other than popularity or tv ratings?

Well, answering this question requires some sort of "scale" we are all using to comment.

I guess my rationale would be that it's underrated compared to how big of an event it is and how much it "should" matter. The World Cup is an event like the Olympics. The only difference is it involves one sport and the United States rarely has anything to be excited about in it. I'd say that is a direct correlation to how "rated" the event is.

I agree that a barometer is need to determine if it is underrated.

I don't think it's fair to state how much it "should" matter. Should matter to whom? ...those who you are measuring? Why should it matter to them? ...Just because it matter to others doesn't seem like enough of a reason. Maybe it's overrated by them.
