I'm not saying throwing every ball down the middle. He's gettin ahead, then getting guys out on the corners. When he struggles its because he falls behind, becomes predictable, and throws pitches right over the middle.

Phillies all over the pirates 7-2
Miami up 1-0 on the cards.

Alonso hit at the big league level.

Grandal is still a great prospect.

Just saying we gave up a ton to get Latos and so far he has been wildly inconsistent. Those guys could have been used in other trades. All I'm saying...

Maybe nobody I enjoy seeing suck more then Nijer Morgan. What a douche

No that's not what you're just saying...you're saying the trade is similar to the Volquez/Hamilton trade...and so far, as sealum has pointed out, it's absolutely not.

    HP ump is terrible.

What? Trading talent for a wildly inconsistent guy with a nice arm isn't similar? Look at media articles regarding the trade. Nearly everybody said the Reds gave up a ton

11 Ks for Latos. Solid outing, nice to get him the W though.

He had a 3.47 ERA last year. A 2.92 ERA the year before...where exactly is the inconsistency? He's been inconsistent this year, sure. But he's pitching in a completely different ballpark on a completely different team. I fully expect him to be our clear #2 best pitcher by year's end. I'm not at all worried about Latos, or our pitching staff in general, really.

But you're not even getting our point...the two trades have zero in common.

Yeah.. And when Cincy got Volquez he came in with good numbers / hype.

Production aside, Latos is a head case

it's not Latos' talent that is called into question, it's his maturity. We've discussed those maturity issues a time or two here on Big League Stew. Hayes cited one source that says there was "a ton" of concern within the Padres front office about Latos' ability to overcome those maturity issues

LOL so are you going to give any examples of his inconsistency in SD, or are you just gonna keep saying it w/ no evidence?

And wow, a SD front office guy said he had mental issues AFTER he was traded...great source there.

Inconsistent this year. Was good in San Diego, but if you follow my logic, I was saying Edinson wasn't a scrub when we got him. My original point: Latos' performance is reminiscent of Edinson whom we acquired by giving up a future star because we thought we had others in organization who could replace them.

    Very simple answer Thom.

Latos starts the inning. As soon as a guy gets on, you bring in Aroldis.
  • wildcats20
BP with a solid 2 bagger to the wall.
  • wildcats20
I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE that steal by BP.
  • Midstate01
Bruce tagged that ball. Can't believe hart made that play.

But it goes for naught as another reds hitter can't get the runner in from 3rd with less than two out.
  • wildcats20
    Latos is back out there.
  • wildcats20
    CG, 4 hitter, 2 BBs, 13 Ks.

    Pretty shitty night.
  • Midstate01
Hell of an outing by Latos!!
  • Midstate01
Pirates and cards both getting beat up in the late innings!
  • wildcats20
One of, it not, the best outing of the year by a Reds pitcher?
