Reds vs Twins...Game1

wildcats20Homer losing it.

mhs95_06Homer gets out of the 5th still holding the lead, but it took him 24 pitches after he had 2 out and none on, a single and two walks later! 91 pitches thru 5 innings. Can Homer get thru 6 with the lead? Some runs in the bottom of the 5th would help.

mhs95_06Rolen's HR makes him 3/13 since he came back with 4 RBI. Both his other hits, both producing RBI were to RF, and other than a weak grounder to 3B, the GR was the only ball he has pulled. I'm thinking his shoulder is making him severely limit the number of times he tries to go to LF.
-
mhs95_06Bailey giving up another hit to Doumit and two walks and getting only one out, gives up the lead again, with the help of Bray's one out bases loaded walk to Span.
-
mhs95_06Mesoraco's K, on a bad call by the back-up ball and strike caller, was key to killing the promising Reds 6th. I'd just as soon he hit into a DP instead which would have given Ondrusek another inning and saved a good pinch hitter.
-
mhs95_06Votto not as adept as BP in making a short flip from an awkward position for an out, as Doumit gets credit for his 4th hit of the night.
-
mhs95_06Burton averaging 1 K per inning and 10 times as many Ks as BBs! Let's see if he can get the Reds in the 8th.

Not a sniff for the Reds in the 8th!mhs95_06;1209603 wrote:Burton averaging 1 K per inning and 10 times as many Ks as BBs! Let's see if he can get the Reds in the 8th. -
mhs95_06Twins with two guys 4/4 as Revere leads off the 9th with his 4th hit, against Marshall.
-
mhs95_06When the Reds are playing well a lot of runs come without the benefit of HRs. Tonight they have got no runs without HRs. Can they in the 9th to salvage this game and avoid a 4 game losing streak?

gerb131Late June swoon? Feels like it.

gerb131Puke.

Ironman92You are slipping mhs95.....Homer already gave up a steal to Revere....and next time up Revere on 2nd with one out and he steals 3rd without sliding and then manufactured a run by tagging on a shallow fly to RF....easily, the difference in the game.

Very good game to watch. Both starters gave up 4 earned runs. The unearned run due to the only error of the game, plus the stolen base due to pitcher inattention, made the difference in a 5-4 game. Three of the Reds recent four loses were one run games. Both bullpens gave up no earned runs, but the Reds allowed two inherited runners from the starter to score, while the Twins bullpen inherited a bases loaded one out situation from the first reliever who was in-effective, and got out of it with no runs. In the 6th and the 9th the Reds singled to center with a runner on 2nd and 1 out, and they held the runner at 3rd. Both times the offense that has trouble scoring runs without HRs, failed to get the runner in from 3rd with less than two out.mhs95_06;1209625 wrote:When the Reds are playing well a lot of runs come without the benefit of HRs. This is the kind of game that usually determines who wins the series, the close, competitive ones that are determined by fundamentals! Four of the Twins five runs scored on plays where a hit was not involved(2 SF, ground-out, and bases loaded walk). -

I was just taking time to get a lot of thought in one post(above)!Ironman92;1209649 wrote:You are slipping mhs95.....Homer already gave up a steal to Revere....and next time up Revere on 2nd with one out and he steals 3rd without sliding and then manufactured a run by tagging on a shallow fly to RF....easily, the difference in the game.
On to the CWS. Let's see if SC can win and get into the final series and win that too, so Kent State can say they knocked out the overall #1 seed, but lost out to the National Champion who won for the 3rd year in a row! SC's pitching was outstanding yesterday! College baseball is much better to watch now that they have toned the aluminum bats back now and moved the fences back! Now if they could get the ball and strike calls better, or maybe even electronically called, they'd be in business!
And speaking of bad ball and strike calls, the replacement ump tonight must not have had time to do his preparatory regimen to sharpen up his faculties calling balls and strikes. He really was unfair to Mesoraco in calling him out with the tying runner on 3rd and 1 out and to Homer when he was struggling and had the guy obviously struck out but he wouldn't call it. I would like to see ESPN put pressure on the CWS and/or the Little League World Series to let K-zone call the balls and strikes. It aches me to see these 12 and 22 year old hitters in the spotlight for probably their only time in their lives, be torn down by terrible calls! -
