2012 All-Star Game...Pre game Discussion Thread/Home Run Derby Talk

  • Ironman92
Tony LaRussa is managing the NL and has chosen Ron Roenicke (Brewers) and Terry Collins (Mets) as his manager choices......so Mets and Brewers will get a player they shouldn't and Cards probably get 2 extra.
  • Ironman92
I think Mike Trout will most likely make it....Can Bryce Harper get enough in the stat column to join him? I definitely want to see both.

HR Derby? Who you want to see?

    Mine:

AL: Mark Trumbo, Adam Dunn, Yoenis Cespedes, Nelson Cruz

NL: Mike Stanton, CarGo, Paul Goldschmidt, Bryce Harper

Of course Josh Hamilton, Jose Bautista, Robinson Cano, Matt Kemp, Joey Votto, Prince Fielder, Ryan Braun, Miguel Cabrera, Troy Tulowitzki....I'd still watch.

Yeah...I'd watch. He could replace Goldschmidt on my list.

Id love to see Goldschmidt. Man is a mammoth, and hits ball long way.

As for the ASG. Jason Kipnis should start at 2B as of now, but he is like 6th in voting. Hopefully he at least gets the managers selection.

Kipnis should be there for sure.

I know, but if Cano somehow wins the voting, I see Ron Washington picking Kinsler. Sucks, but its what I see happening. Maybe he goes with 3 2B though.

I'd love to see the Dunner in either the HR Derby or the game. He could be the first person ever to swing and miss in the HR Derby.

Love me some Dunner..but he'd probably miss 3 times in a row so he manages a strikeout.

    Rickie Weeks
  • Raw Dawgin' it
Harper would be a sweet addition.

I want to see Stanton. I could see him hitting one close to 480-490

Could also hit a 500 footer

For the Reds Votto, Phillips and Chapman are locks.

    Cueto outside looking in.
  • Mulva
I'd like to see Giancarlo and Dunn in the derby.
  • Ironman92
Dunn pretty much said he cares little about the derby. He said might do it if asked as an All-Star but no way if he's not.

    "ooh I hit a HR off a 50 mph pitch, whoopee"....his words

The Mets will get two well-deserved nods: David Wright and RA Dickey (who should start). There is an outside chance that Johan Santana gets a spot, and his no-hitter might help.

PS Ironman, why the hate toward the Mets? Haven't been on the site much lately, but you spewed a lot of smack about the Mets during their sweep against the Reds. For a team that has played much of the season without its starting shortstop, left fielder, catcher and #3 pitcher, 3 games over .500 and a 1/2 game out of the wild card isn't exactly a bad season. Granted, the Reds series was ugly, but overall I am thrilled with the Mets season to date.

That Mets lineup was awful.....missing Dickey and Johan was fortunate....I just don't like the Mets....sorry man

haha, no worries man, was just curious where the hate came from (usually the Mets blow so badly, there is no point wasting energy on hating them). With Ike Davis FINALLY starting to hit, and Kirk Nieuwenhuis making a bid for a Top 3 ROY finish, this offense is actually better than it looks on paper. Sadly, with Bay out, this team tends to hit better. Unless I am mistaken, they are the top hitting team with 2 outs and RISP, which has certainly helped.

PS, RA is a stud! Can't even write his last name on this site haha

Just read on twitter that Cole Hamels selected Bryce Harper as one of his AS picks. The Kid must be handling things the major league way....Hamels of course gave him his first test.
  • Ironman92
LaRussa was asked about possible starters to start the game (Dickey, Strasburg, Cain) and he assed Wainright and Lance Lynn to the discussion to be in the mix.
