Giants @ Reds Game 2: Zito(1-0 1.71) vs. Arroyo(1-0 2.91)
-
se-alumCan the Reds get a Game 2 win?? A win here would really set it up nicely for a big homestand!
-
thavoiceJust like how Latos was due to have a great game, Arroyo is about ready to throw up one of his clunkers.
Zito is a soft throwing lefty.....who has found his groove after a few years....and It hink he has the reds baffled.
Giants win -
like_thatIt would be nice to see Zito get his form back. I feel for the guy. He took a big contract and it just hasnt worked out, but he was been working hard everyday to gain his form back.
-
thavoiceYeah....Same here.....just not against the reds though!
Arroyo has 3 good starts.....he is due for a clusterfuck. Only thing that may save him is that the giants arent that great of a hitting team. -
justincredibleBenches clear. Reds win.
-
thavoiceI wonder if what happened late was because of Latos. Was it LeClure who threw it behind the batter? Maybe he did that as a favor to Latos since he really wasnt in the position to do it himself during the game.

Or it was because they plunked Joey earlier on a pitch that was, to me, clearly intentional. -

Skyhook disagrees -

You are probably right. I didnt see that pitch..I tuned it away for a few minutes and back on when bruce was up.wildcats20;1152464 wrote:Or it was because they plunked Joey earlier on a pitch that was, to me, clearly intentional.
Forgot about them saying he was hit.......Yeah..it has to be because of that.
VOtto is striking out alot. Last night in the 1st he goes down on 3 straight pitches. Presssing too much from the huge contract? -

If it was intentional, it was possibly the worst timed intentional HBP i've ever seen. Typically you wouldn't hit someone to load the bases in a game that is still winnable.wildcats20;1152464 wrote:Or it was because they plunked Joey earlier on a pitch that was, to me, clearly intentional. -
daveVotto got hit late in the game. Posey is their best player so that's who you retaliate against and the first time he was up after Votto getting hit was in the 9th. That's why LeCure had to do it. Unfortunately he sucks and couldn't get the job done.
With Arroyo and Zito going I wouldn't expect anything further. -
zach24ozI thought it was funny after Votto was hit, he picked the ball up and tossed it back to the pitcher, gave him a look and jogged to first. I have a feeling something may happen tonight, but the thing is both pitchers don't throw hard enough to do much. Hopefully last night was a sign for things to come with the batting. Scotty and Bruce came through and just need Votto to relax a little bit. Stubbs is looking very good right now too. Good move to put him in the #2 spot.
-
daveI don't think the Voto HBP was intentional either. It wasn't a fastball and a runner was on third. That pitcher just sucked, hell Rolen could even hit him.
-
Heretic
I read Yahoo's SB Nation blog for the Giants and their guy seemed to think it was more due to the relief pitcher's general incompetence that night than any intent. Along with doing his best "internet comedian fail" impersonation. Sherm should take some lessons from this guy. And me, as well, with that clumsy jab I just tossed in.se-alum;1152478 wrote:If it was intentional, it was possibly the worst timed intentional HBP i've ever seen. Otero hit Joey Votto with a pitch because he didn't know where the ball was going. Otero didn't, I mean. Well, I suppose Votto didn't either, or else he would have sat in the right-handed batter's box and explained to the ump that he'd get drilled in the thigh if he took his normal spot. Regardless, it was clear that Otero didn't mean to hit Votto. -

The offense has looked pretty good over the last 5 games, but I want to see Bruce and Rolen getting hits in clutch, pressure situations.zach24oz;1152484 wrote:I thought it was funny after Votto was hit, he picked the ball up and tossed it back to the pitcher, gave him a look and jogged to first. zach24ozBruce did have a big double in the clutch last night didn't he? I think the bases were loaded?
-
thavoiceyeah..he had a big double with teh bases loaded late in the game. Dont know i would call it clutch though as the reds were up I think 4-0 at the time...but still a big hit nonetheless that sealed the victory.

I disagree. It was a fastball and I think that was the Giants way of pitching around Joey to get to Phillips.dave;1152485 wrote:I don't think the Voto HBP was intentional either. It wasn't a fastball and a runner was on third. That pitcher just sucked, hell Rolen could even hit him.
The Reds can win tonight, but if they come out swinging and not working Zito I could see a 5 hit 1 run performance from Barry. -
Midstate01I don't know it was intentional or not. But I'm glad Lecure stuck up for his teammate and plunked one of them. It's the least he could do, he sucks on the mound right now.
-
justincredibleVotto was not hit intentionally. No way. That reliever just sucked.
That said, I had no problem with Sam throwing at Posey. I'm glad he didn't actually hit him, especially in the knee. I'm not sure if Sam was try to hit him or just send the Giants a warning. I'm leaning towards the latter. -
justincredibleThe black dots are Otero's fastballs last night. All the fuck over the place.
-
slcoachI agree that the reliever sucked, but I think it was intentional. I am not sure where you got those charts (or maybe I am not reading them right) but he only threw 36 pitches last night. That seems like a lot of dots.
If there is going to be a headhunting war, tonight is the night. Zito and Bronson couldn't hurt a teenage girl with their heaters. -
justincredibleYeah, that is off. This chart looks accurate: http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/cache/location.php-pitchSel=519096&game=gid_2012_04_24_sfnmlb_cinmlb_1&batterX=&innings=yyyyyyyyy&sp_type=1&s_type=.gif
