On the botched rundown play, I've got to hand most of the fault to Hanigan. the runner was smart enough to not let Rolen tag him. Hanigan could have saved the batter from getting to 2nd after the out by aggressively running toward 3rd to pinch the runner as closer the 3B as possible and as quickly as possible. As soon as Rolen realized Hanigan wasn't coming and he couldn't catch the runner he had to throw it to a stationary Hanigan which allowed the batter to 2B. Then Hanigan messed most obviously when he was running the runner back to 3B and gave up the ball too early, before the trapped runner reached the pinch point, allowing him to turn back toward home and get away again, allowing the batter to come to 3B. What in the world do they work on in spring training? Not this apparently enough or position player bunting? Or situational hitting theory!
