And I would STILL take them over Hines to be a wide receiver, not a mentor.

And I played high school and college football. And I highly doubt you "forgot more about football than I'll ever know." I highly doubt that.
Do you want me to list all the receivers he's not better than? That's a pretty long list. This isn't 2004 buddy. And I mentioned the fact that he lost his job because Wallace, Sanders, and Brown are studs. If Hines was still the #1, the Steelers offense would NOT be explosive. Yeah, he's nice to have to block or to go over the middle, but at some point he needs to make huge plays and he can NOT do that ANYMORE. The fact of the matter, the biggest asset he is, is as a mentor. He might as well just become a damn coach.
Ok let the past insults go . Lets go on from here . All iIm saying is I believe Hines has more to offer for sure . Your opinions of better wideouts are like judging players at the columbine . Dont let your ego cloud your judgment . I think your saying and listing people just because your dislike for a Steeler or former Steeler . Im trying to judge without bias. Throw all my luv for Hines away and I still know that guy would be an asset to many teams . He is like a player coach and if you dont think that amounts to something then I dont think you ever played football

You keep coming back to the same point: he is an asset as a coach. I feel like they could hire him as a coach cheaper than as a player. Why waste money on a guy that doesn't have it anymore?

I wouldnt pay him alot . I do figure he could possibly be productive as a 3rd down reciever for a few more years . His work ethic and the way younger recievers see him on film are imeasurable. You got to see light here. When those youngs guys see how he smashes a DB down field on a running play ,or goes over the middle with a smile . Just remember the Steelers are loaded . Most teams are not . THINK

You have to pay him at least 925k.
those are all things you can teach on film.

Again, you keep coming back to coaching.

    Edit: 925k not 950k

I think he is worth it . I really do . He helped out our wide reciever core and he will do the same for another young group .. Hines is one of my favorite all time Steelers because I was a lineman he is right up there with Lambert and Webster . I have been watching this guy for 14 years and he is worth being on a team

Then have him on as a coach.

Really? Heyward-Bey is 24, one of the fastest players in the game, and was a 1,000 yard receiver last year who has improved greatly from one season to the next.

99 carrer recepts in three years and probably as many drops...6 career td's..

and he's young and improving. you think the raiders would be smart to sign hines and play him in front of heyward-bey? and stop his growth?

Like I said, he has improved greatly from one season to the next. He doesn't even look like the same guy anymore. He came into the league looking like a track guy who would occasionally catch a football. Now he is a legit WR and was their #1 last year. He'll keep improving and has huge upside. It's laughable to hear someone say they'd take Ward over DHB at this point in Ward's career.

i never said that....i was merely pointing out it was laughable to put any of those three guys ahead of ANYONE...except maybe each other.

    again DHB > Hines
and Braylon and Evans offer more as a receiver than Hines. Hines can run <10 yard routes and block. Isn't that why the Steelers have David Johnson?

Nice reading comprehension, bud. The dude was naming WR's he'd take over HINES WARD.
  • Gblock
DHB=Cant catch you can have him...yea he got 1000 yards cause they threw 50+ times a game
Braylon= Cant catch either...is he even in the league

hines was hurt last year...i would put his 3 year total up against either of those guys. if you are talking about for the future sure DHB is 24 w more upside than hines but he cant do anything better than hines but run fast. If you watched any of their games last year half the time DHB ran the wrong route and then fell down...

that being said my original post in this thread stated i doubt there would be much of a market for hines next year outside of people in the division trying to piss the steelers off or get some intel.

Seriously? I'm a Raiders fan. I watch every game of theirs. I was so opposed to the DHB pick as I really wanted Maclin (and would still like to have Maclin instead of DHB, of course). That being said, Heyward-Bey came into the league with a drop and route running problem, yes. But his route running is pretty damn good now. The drops still occur every now and then, but not nearly as much as they used to. The 2011 season was his lowest in drops. And he was targeted 8 times per game in 2011, so his numbers definitely weren't a result of a heavy volume of passes coming to him. And let's not forget the WR corp for Oakland was plagued with injuries (Ford, Moore, Murphy, Schillens) so DHB was often doubled. You're just throwing shit against a wall hoping it sticks. He's turned into a fine young WR.

I have the ticket and 3 big screens in my living room my roomate is a raiders fan so i watched him suffer through this season after a promising start....he fell down a lot and had a TON of drops....but anyway you cant put a guy like that with his stats above anyone RIGHT NOW...6 td's in 3 years??...your basing your opinion on what you hope he can do. which i think he will improve and be a good reciever but he's not there yet.

Maybe you need to add a 4th big screen? He had 6 drops lol And he had a fast start to the year, got hurt and sat out two weeks, came back slow, and finished the year very strong. Do I wish he'd catch more TD's? I do. But keep in mind he's had these QB's throwing to him: Russell, Gradkowski, Boller, Campbell, and Palmer. And he also plays on a team who runs the hell out of the ball, especially down in the redzone. He is not an elite WR, but as a Raider fan, he's been a pleasant surprise and I know about every team in the league would love to have a guy of his skill set.

ill take a link for the 6 drops..anyway on one side you have a guy 1000 catches and 10000 yards and the other guy cant barely catch....i guess we will have to agree to disagree

ps im working on the 4th big screen the problem is that i need a more direct tv boxes!
