Possible Cleveland Cavaliers 1st Round Draft Selections
-
ichsnjbI have a feeling that the Wine and Gold will get a high first round pick (or two) again, which brings me to the though: who do we go after? I have broken down on who the Cavs should target with their choice, position-by-position.
PG-
We will not be drafting a PG for the next couple of drafts, starting with this one, as we have gotten our PG of the future in Kyrie Irving. Kendall Marshall is a good player, but the Cavs wont waste more money on a want, not a need, as there are some major holes in our team to fill.
POSSIBILITY OF SELECTING A PG: 0/100%
SG-
Now here is our first hole. We have not have a good SG since the departure of Craig Ehlo. I think we could target a SG with our pick, as Anthony Parker is not the answer for the short or long- run, as he will be calling it quits soon (age 36). There is good depth here, and I think Austin Rivers or Tim Hardaway Jr. could fit the bill. Either way, we would be ending up with a good shooter, which is good for a team which is near the last when it comes to PPG.
POSSIBILITY OF SELECTING A SG: 45/100%
SF-
Now I think this our biggest need coming into the 2012 offseason. I do not think LeBron or any other high-profile SF will be coming to C-Town for a while. This certain position has the most depth in the upcoming draft class IMO, with James McAdoo and Harrison Barnes headlining the pack. I think you have to pull the trigger and select a SF. Even if McAdoo and Barnes are gone before we pick, Quincy Miller, Michael Kidd Gilchrist, and Terrance Jones are still good picks, along with Kris Joseph being a possible 2nd round choice. Alonzo Gee and Omri Casspi is NOT the answer.
POSSIBILITY OF SELECTING A SF: 47/100%
PF-
Here's another one where you already know they're not drafting. Tristan Thompson is the future, with Antawn Jamison being a solid backup.
POSSIBILITY OF SELECTING A PF: 0/100%
C-
Here's a position where I think they could fill in FA, but not as much in the draft. Anderson Varejáo is still a pretty good starting center, and is a big factor of the team. But what the real uncertainty is the depth, the substitutes. Ryan Hollins is average, at most, and Semih Erden, you gotta be joking? They obviously need help at center. They may jump the gun and select Andrew Drummond, but 2nd round is where they MAY draft one. Tyler Zeller could help, if still available in the 2nd.
POSSIBILITY OF SELECTING A C: 8/100% -
Crimson streakIf the cavs get the number 1 it would be very very hard not to take Anthony Davis
-
MulvaAntawn Jamison will not be a Cav after this season. Hollins, Erden, Gody, and Samuels contracts are all up after this season too if I'm not mistaken, so I'd guess at least 2 of those 4 don't return. I'm pretty confident that all of them (outside of the Goat, of course) could be improved upon.
This all depends on what we do with trades in the next month, but we clearly need a starting SG and SF. Gibson, Gee, and Casspi might be good enough off of the bench.
We also need 1-2 post players, and I think 1 of them needs to be a starter. I don't think TT and Varejao on the court at the same time would be very beneficial, as they have the exact same style. We could use a legit scoring big vs. 2 hustle/defensive players.
And if we trade Sessions we'll need a backup PG as well. It won't be the first pick, but I wouldn't mind spending one of our 2nd round picks on a guy like Scott Machado at all (again, assuming Ramon gets dealt).
I do not want Andre Drummond. The guy is nowhere near NBA ready. If we take Tim Hardaway Jr I'm going to cry. If we take Austin Rivers I would come pretty close.
And if we took James McAdoo I would just quit altogether. He's a hustler/defender/rebounder with a raw and limited offensive game. We have enough of those already. -

I would be ecstatic to see Davis in a cavs uni, rivers or Barnes would be awesome. Aren't kyrie Nd rivers good friends -

Draft Davis, then trade Thompson for a 1st round pick (and get lucky )? -
daveI just hope they take best available with all 3 of their picks, other than drafting a PG. TT is no lock to be a great NBA player, get as much talent on the roster as you can.

wes_mantoothIt is crazy how Perry Jones has fallen off the map...people were crazy about him coming into the season.

Yes it is... Same with Terrence Jones..wes_mantooth;1090826 wrote:It is crazy how Perry Jones has fallen off the map...people were crazy about him coming into the season.
Hell, Austin Rivers was thought to be a top 3 pick coming into college... Now he's not in the top 15-20 on most mocks..
Sullinger has seen his stock fall as well, as he should... I don't think he's going to be a good pro. -
wes_mantoothSullinger just doesn't have that NBA style look to him. He has range, but he plays like a #5 most of the time....I just don't know.

Thompson and Davis could actually play together. Davis is big enough to play the 5 at times. They would instantly have the best down low defense in the nba. No one would be able to attack the rim. -

Terrence's problem is that his teammates are too good. He's lucky to be the 3rd option some nights for UK.hoops23;1090829 wrote:Yes it is... Same with Terrence Jones..

thedynasty1998Davis is a lock regardless of who has the pick. This is a deep draft and the Cavs need to find a way to get a second 1st round pick. If they can find a late 1st rounder I would like Tyler Zeller. He has really improved and I think will be a really solid pro. And he would really compliment Varejao and Thompson.
-
Commander of AwesomeI watched Perry Jones several times last year and came away unimpressed every time. Most of the time he was on the floor I wasn't even aware when watching Baylor play. He's all athletic "potential". I don't think he'll be very good in the NBA personally.
-
WooballAssuming we are not drafting in the top 3, I'd take any one of Jeremy Lamb, MKG, or Brad Beal. With the way this team continues to win enough games to keep them out of the top half of the lottery, Beal looks like the most likely of the 3. Although Lamb, and UConn as a whole, have not been living up to expectations this year. Not sure how that is going to affect his draft position.

KR1245Gimme the best available 2 or 3 with the 1st pick. If they're able to pick up another 1st rounder I would take the best player available.

I like Sullinger, but I don't believe he is athletic or quick enough to be dominate on the next level. In a best case scenario, I think he can develop into a mix between Al Horford/Kevin Love, but that's just my opinion.wes_mantooth;1090831 wrote:Sullinger just doesn't have that NBA style look to him. I see him kinda like big baby -

Whats wrong with Rivers? he has a tailor made NBA game and has enough height to run the 2 along with Irving at pointMulva;1090747 wrote:I do not want Andre Drummond. The guy is nowhere near NBA ready. If we take Tim Hardaway Jr I'm going to cry. If we take Austin Rivers I would come pretty close.

lhslep134Oh man if we could get Austin Rivers, we'd be set in the backcourt for a long time. Dude is just a pure scorer. So what if he's a cocky piece of $hit, sometimes that's not a bad thing. Plus he's friends with Irving, and pre-existing chemistry is a plus for me.

dazedconfusedif we luck out again with the first pick, anthony davis all day. any other pick, grab whomever is left and rated the highest among lamb, beal, mkg and barnes

I would have no problems with Rivers. A couple mocks have him going in the 15-20 range. If the Cavs can get another 1st rounder I would LOVE MKG with the 1st and Rivers with the 2nd. Pretty solid lineup with Kyrie, Rivers, MKG, TT and Andy.
MKG and Kyrie were high school teammates as well -

That is a fair comparison as well, but I feel that Sullinger is already more polished on the offensive end. At worst, I think he'll fair similar to him in the NBA.gport_tennis;1091076 wrote:I see him kinda like big baby -
