Rolex 24 hour of Daytona

  • said_aouita
Michael Waltrip and Travis Pastrana are teammates racing a Ferrari.

Actor Patrick Dempsey and AC/DC lead singer Brian Johnson also racing the 24 hour race.

The Corvette Prototype race car returns to Daytona.

Anybody else going to watch this or do I hear a big "don't give a f*ck!" from the OC?

I will try to catch some of it. Andretti is my dog.

Downer, the Chevy already misfiring on the 1st lap.

Travis Pastrana just about hit a Porsche leaving the pits. Yikes!

My fiancees father raced in the class below these guys till a year ago. It was crazy seeing how fast the rolex cars were(watched the homestead race)

Really makes for an interesting race, having different classes on the track at the same time. Have you seen this crash from Le Mans? holy sh*t!

Beat me to it. I had to Google where Pataskala is in Ohio. Was thinking it was more North of C-bus.

Between Newark and Columbus. He is a small budget team that finally got factory backing from Ford. Very good driver in his own right and a good guy to boot. He is trying to put together a full time Indy car team. A.J. Almendinger was his main driver for the 24 hours of Daytona.

Sounds like they already got the car. No doubt winning 24h of Daytona will only help.
Wonder if they friendly with Rahal Letterman...

I was in victory lane. Dinger was unreal the last 3 hours. I'll get some pics up tomorrow, I'm exhausted.

What was that, the drivers parking area? Friggin' Ferrari's, Nissan GTR, McLaren and Lambo's!

Looks like a fun time. Were you there for the entire race? How much sleep can you get, camping on the infield?
Those cars are silly loud, I'd think.

Good eye to notice the Nissan GT-R. I was there 10 minutes and still didn't see it until a guy mentioned it. Yes that is the driver/owner lot.
I live 10 minutes from the track, so I was there all day Thurs., Friday, got there at 7am until midnight Sat., and back at 8am until 5pm Sunday.
My hat is signed by Brian Johnson of AC/DC, Travis Pastrana, Patrick Dempsey, Hurley Haywood and the other Brumos drivers, Brian Redman, Jack Roush Sr & Jr, Billy Johnson, Scott Pruett, Max Angelelli, Ricky & Jordan Taylor, the MOMO team, and many more.
Billy Johnson won Friday (see the nascar thread) and was in Will Turner's 94 BMW for the 24hours, but it broke early. He was 25 miles from the track Sunday morning and got a call from the 77 Combos Prototype team that they needed a driver. He came back and got in the car and ran some great laps. Probably the only guy to drive both a GT and DP in the race.
I'm still sorting through my pictures, might have some more good ones.

Small budget? With 2 cars and practice before the race, his tire bill is over $100k for the weekend. A year ago the Dispatch had a story on his costs for this race. 3 cars, transportation, hotels, motorhomes at the track, fuel, credentials, food, crew, equipment, etc. $1.2 million budget for one race.

Maybe I shouldn't have used "small budget". As any type of racing is expensive. I was just happy for him and his team as he has spent many years grinding and getting financial backing. He doesn't have the bank roll or factory backing that a Roush or Ganassi has.

Is that black Ferrari an Italia?
  • Speedofsand
cat, I know what you mean. I remembered that article. Everyone was happy for him getting the win. He shaved AJ's logo into his hair, lol. Really enjoying the victory.

said, pretty sure its an Italia. There was a handful of them in the race. The Audi R8 is a V10 something, Spyder?, I was told it is the first of its kind in North America. The same guy owns the Audi, Lambo, Ferrari, and the McLaren F1.

now check this out, I had tears from laughing so hard. The best comment is 'Not sure if turbo or woman screaming.' Possibly the best youtube I've ever seen.
