-
fictionNice event for the city to host.

Midstate01That's great.
-
HereticI don't really pay much attention to all-star games in pro sports, but does the NHL have an MLB-like rule where every team has to be represented?
Because it'd kinda suck for local fans for the host team to not be actually participating in the game. -
j_crazyNot good enough to send any players but they host? Seems like rewarding the owner for nothing.
-
thavoiceWas this expected or are they throwing the CBJ a bone to generate some interest.
I love watching the NHL all star game but man it seems like they have been doing their best to hide the damn thing. -

That's what happens when a league signs a contract with Versus (now NBC Sports).thavoice;1068330 wrote:I love watching the NHL all star game but man it seems like they have been doing their best to hide the damn thing. -
thavoiceand didnt they have it during the week for at least one year?

gerb131An attempt to save face with the city of Columbus.

se-alumNo matter the reason, this is big for the CBJ and the city of Columbus.

Uh, he didn't make it this year.Y-Town Steelhound;1068444 wrote:Uh....Rick Nash anyone? -

Exactly. I will say, from the posts on a local columbus forum, it is working with the "I want hockey at all costs and I am in a bad mood when the Jackets lose" type fans. -

No doubt, but cmon. Announcing this the same day as "Occupy Nationwide Arena" its obvious what this is. -

Agreed!se-alum;1068436 wrote:No matter the reason, this is big for the CBJ and the city of Columbus.
I'd like to see a lot more PR going for the Jackets and Crew. If not, those will be two franchises in the move in their respective leagues. -

This year is this year and next year is next year. History disagrees with you since Nash is a 5 time all star.wildcats20;1068453 wrote:Uh, he didn't make it this year. -

Pr has nothing to do with the Jackets bad attendence and badically bad revenues. Its the consistently shitty product they put on the ice. -

Agreed. The Crew's problem is definitely their PR. "Dare to be Massive"? What the hell does that even mean? I will say that it's kind of sad that Columbus doesn't support the Crew as much as they should. They're great games to go to even if you don't like soccer and they obviously get results on the field.LJ;1068505 wrote:Pr has nothing to do with the Jackets bad attendence and badically bad revenues. The Jackets just need to win and that starts with cleaning house in the front office. There's a big rally going on as we speak right now at the arena. -
ts1227Plus the people of Columbus just don't give a fuck about anything not OSU, and/or football and basketball, and most likely never will

Nor should he have even been considered.wildcats20;1068453 wrote:Uh, he didn't make it this year. -

:laugh:Then those people must be depressed. And Columbus needs an identity, honestly I can't figure out what they're trying to be. Detroit is a puck possession and fluid motion team, Chicago is basically the Oregon Ducks of the NHL in just trying to put up the goals, St Louis and Nashville are big defensive teams that seem to have a goal of winning every game 1-0. It's like they just wanna suck dick honestlyLJ;1068454 wrote:Exactly. If the CBJ was average to below average instead of one of the worst teams in the league, their attendance would be fine.ts1227;1068540 wrote:Plus the people of Columbus just don't give a fuck about anything not OSU, and/or football and basketball, and most likely never will -

Yep. I gave up my tix because of how bad they are, as did a lot of people. If they made the playoffs every 3 years and were in contention the other two, attendence would be solid as would merch sales. -
HereticYeah. In their history (what is it now, 12-14 years?) they've made the playoffs once and exited almost immediately. And every time it looks like things might be turning the corner, it seems like the wheels immediately fall off and they enter a downward spiral.
The combination of (1) horrible current product and (2) no tradition of past winning usually leads to horrible attendance as fans get more and more disillusioned with what they're seeing and the futility of hoping they'll improve. -
brutus161This is shitty news. It would have been a lot better if I wasn't transferring in September. The NHL is run by assholes.

TedShecklerSorry Bettman didn't consult with you.
