I don't care if the QB is black, white, green or Bozo the Circus Clown....I just want a LEGIT QB in this town (Cleveland). No more of these noodle armed pussies who can't throw a pass more than 15 yards accurately and are screwed if the wind is blowing more than 10 mph.thavoice;1058898 wrote:Never said that.

If you get him BR, do you think that the browns will adapt to his strengths and open up the offense to more of a spread and let him play like they did in Carolina? I think that is what is going to maximize his ability...put him in a scheme that uses his skills.BR1986FB;1058924 wrote:I don't care if the QB is black, white, green or Bozo the Circus Clown....I just want a LEGIT QB in this town (Cleveland). but ya gotta keep in those 3 yard pass plays on 3rd and 4 though. They are a staple of the organization. -
Ironman92All that speed is too far. No way is he any quicker than Vick was in just a few steps.

RG3 is the rare blend of athlete and scholar. Do I think they will adapt the systems to him? No...BUT....I do think that RG3 is intelligent enough that he will pick up the system quickly and the new offensive coordinator will sprinkle in some wrinkles utilizing RG3's strengths. If that OC is Mike Sherman I think RG3 would thrive.thavoice;1059260 wrote:If you get him BR, do you think that the browns will adapt to his strengths and open up the offense to more of a spread and let him play like they did in Carolina? iii may not be quite as quick as Vick, zigging and zagging but (imo) to be the 2nd fastest HS hurdler ever AND be a QB? If the 2nd fastest hurdler ever was maybe a WR or RB I could see that happening more often then a QB.
To be that athletic and then look at his QB stats. I vote iii. -

What did Vick run the 40 in? I've heard RG3's is projected at 4.2.said_aouita;1059896 wrote:Very well possible but I don't know that for sure.

According to ESPN Michael Vick ran a 4.36 in rookie mini camp following the 2001 NFL draft. That year during the 2001 NFL Combine Michael elected to opt out of the field testing portion.BR1986FB;1059900 wrote:What did Vick run the 40 in? I've heard RG3's is projected at 4.2.
Excerpt from an ESPN article Tuesday May 8, 2001:
"At a rookie mini-camp last weekend, Vick ran the 40-yard dash in 4.36 seconds, the fastest time among the 19 draft picks and college free agents at the mandatory camp."[LEFT]

It really isnt about being intelligent enough to pick up the system, it is putting him in a system that best uses his skills to be successful. A wrinkle here and there I dont think is enough. If they pick RGIII I think they need to really work on getting a full slate of receivers.BR1986FB;1059488 wrote:RG3 is the rare blend of athlete and scholar. I think that the browns can use what the pats did in coming out with 5 wide, and then putting the TE as the RB and giving it to him at times when they see the dime defense come in. Cribbs would be perfect for that.
I think RGIII can be a very good player, but I am a 'right place at the right time' kind of thinker. Many times the success hinges on being at the right place at the right time......if Leaf had went to Indy would he have bombed or did living on the coast or the leadership for SD help derail him WHo knows......when you se undrafted guys start in the NFL and do well ya gotta believe in that concept.
I think he has mild success in cleveland, but I bet someone moves up to get RGIII. What is the status of McCoys contract? He was drafted before the changes to the rookie cap. Can they even afford to have him on the team and be a backup? -

thavoiceThre is speed and football speed. Is .16 really that much of a difference when you are blazing that fast? Plus....they run without pads, without the football, without THINKING about what they are having to do in reading a defense.
I think when you have 40 speeds that are that close, especially for a QB< it really isnt that big of a daeal. -

I look at NFL players who also were excellent track athletes. Most were sprinters, up to 400m runners.thavoice;1059996 wrote:Thre is speed and football speed. As a track and field athlete, Robert Griffin III broke state records for the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles. He ran the 110-meter hurdles in 13.55 seconds, and the 300m hurdles in 35.33 seconds. The 300m hurdle time was one-hundredth of a second short of breaking the national high school record. He was also won gold in the 110 and 400-meter hurdles on the AAU track and field circuit. As a high school junior, he sprinted 13.46 in the 110-meter hurdles and 49.56 in the 400-meter hurdles. In 2007, as a junior, he was rated the No. 1 high school 400-meter immediate hurdler in the country, and was tied at No. 1 for the 110-meter sprint hurdler in the nation. In 2008, at the age of 18 years, he qualified for the semi-final in the 2008 U.S. Olympic trials in the 400m hurdles running a world-class time of 49.73 seconds. Unless you have been living in a cave for the last few months, I don’t believe I need to elaborate on his football accomplishments.
Like said in link below- Pure speed, athleticism, strength when anaerobic (no air) because of the hurdles, plus stride frequency/length carries over to the football field.

I think McCoy is a dead man walking. When the owner (Randy Lerner) who surfaces about as much as the Loch Ness Monster is saying "the QB situation has to be settled" and is comparing McCoy to Kyle Boller, Kordell Stewart and Tommy Maddox, the writing's on the wall. McCoy was a 3rd rounder so his contract is extremely team friendly.thavoice;1059993 wrote:What is the status of McCoys contract? He was drafted before the changes to the rookie cap. I remember Rod Woodson was a tremendous sprinter at Snider high school and Purdue. He was a world class sprinter as well. Some positions that type of speed is more important than at others.
It ultimately comes down to if he can adapt to the NFL style, and deliver the football to the receivers. Speed, athleticism will help him improvise will benefit him no doubt about that. Hope the kid succeeds.....just not in cleveland tho! -
thavoicehe compared him to those three knuckleheads?
Wow.
Some reason I thought McCoy was a higher draft pick. Browns Gotta take him if he is still available. If they pass on him...they are plain idiots. -
BR1986FB
The problem with this is that Holmgren/Shurmur are married to their version of the WCO and may not feel RG3 is a fit. Instead, they may decide to draft a lesser QB (Tannehill) with their second 1st rounder since he fits the scheme. The talent/athleticism between RG3 and Tannehill is like comparing a Ferrari to a Ford Focus, imo. Tannehill may be good but I think RG3 will be exceptional. Either way, I think McCoy is done.thavoice;1060048 wrote:he compared him to those three knuckleheads?

LOL....Lerner, you can tell by these comparisons the last time he saw a game. That's our biggest problem. I don't want Jerry Jones or Steinbrenner, but a little activity/interest would be nice.BR1986FB;1060024 wrote:I think McCoy is a dead man walking. Actually, I was impressed by Lerner. Shows he knows and follows the game. Knew a lot more than I thought he would. He used those names (Maddox/Stewart/Boller) to show that in order for franchises to take that "next step' they have to transition from the scrub QB's (those mentioned and McCoy) to major upgrades (Roethlisberger/Flacco).ytownfootball;1060080 wrote:LOL....Lerner, you can tell by these comparisons the last time he saw a game. Lerner said he was at every game this past season and has relocated back to Cleveland. He has an office right next to Holmgren and sees him several times a week. If anything, Lerner's comments might have tipped off which direction they might go in the draft with his obvious displeasure with McCoy. I'm sure Lerner has had a few conversations with Holmgren and has gotten his (Holmgren's) feeling on the matter (QB situation). -

No, but Ted Ginn worked out pretty damn well for the Buckeyes, and is definitely a useful player for San Fran. Top 10 pick worthy? Hell no, but still a viable NFL player.pnhasbeen;1058863 wrote:I wouldn't want Usain Bolt to be my running back. -

Ah...in that context I would feel better about it. I do hope to see some interest taken by ownership. It's been too long that he's seemed to not care one way or the other, need to see some focus.BR1986FB;1060085 wrote:Actually, I was impressed by Lerner. Shows he knows and follows the game. But rgiii is a top ten pick. I've said on here that I think rgiii might be the better player down the road but luck is the safest bet.
I don't care too much for track statistics. The only reason those are viable now is because rgiii is so damn good at football. -
