Lesnar annunces his MMA retirement!

AutomatikI've always said Lesnar was a "flash in the pan." No real skill just a big ogre that can hammer first and sell PPVs.
I do feel for him regarding his health though. I was actually surprised he came back as soon as he did after his issues. -
Heretic
A sport is garbage because fans wear clothes affiliated with it? Good to know. Time to burn my college and pro team t-shirts and sweatshirts, since they're making a lot of sports garbage.slingshot4ever;1033075 wrote:Why? It's garbage. Everytime I'm out at a sports bar I know if this shit is on because the place is filled with fucking high school kids or "adults" wearing those flaming tap out or affliction shirts. Fucking embarrassing if you are associated with those people... -

Yeah, a NCAA D1 Champ (2x finalist) has no skill at all. /sarcasmAutomatik;1038694 wrote:I've always said Lesnar was a "flash in the pan." No real skill just a big ogre that can hammer first and sell PPVs.

Gblockthose knees he took in the ribs before the kick probably led to him folding up as much as that kick did...you could see the shockwave in his back on the replay

I'm talking about in MMA. He is and was a great wrestler, but I was never impressed with his all around game.like_that;1038703 wrote:Yeah, a NCAA D1 Champ (2x finalist) has no skill at all. /sarcasm

lol I knew you were going to spew this type of bullshit. MMA stands for mixed martial arts. Wrestling is one of the arts that most fighters come in with. Most of the successful fighters have a wrestling background. Being a 2x NCAA finalist requires skill (amongst other things). Those skills you develop in wrestling transition very well into MMA, or just fighting in general. Kimbo Slice is a flash in the pan fighter, Brock Lesnar is not. If the guy starts at a younger age (MMA wasn't big then), we would be talking about the greatest MMA heavyweight. I wouldn't expect you to understand that though. You should stick to your soccer threads, it's comical to read your posts and see you struggle to pretend that you know what you are talking about.Automatik;1038721 wrote:I'm talking about in MMA. robj55If Lesnar had started training MMA right out of college he would be scary good, imagine him with high level stand up, he would have been damn near unbeatable.
-
Raw Dawgin' itHe lost a lot of time learning how to strike while being sick. He did break Heath Herrings orbital bone though.
I'd like to see someone call him a pussy to his face...idiots. -
AutomatikI understand completely. No doubt wrestling translates well to MMA, but to be successful in the long haul you need to do a bit of everything. His stand up offense and defense was damn near non existent and it showed.
I wish Lesnar would have started earlier or the disease thing didn't happen, but it still doesn't change my opinion. His career was short lived and he ended up 5-3. IMO thats a flash in the pan. -
Raw Dawgin' itHe's similar to Randy Couture in the sense he only fought big fights. Their records don't do them justice.
-
bigdaddy2003I wonder why slingshot hasn't returned to defend his position?

cause he's a retarded troll...bigdaddy2003;1038762 wrote:I wonder why slingshot hasn't returned to defend his position? -

I can't stand Lesnar, but you don't win a NCAA HW wrestling national championship with "no real skill".Automatik;1038694 wrote:I've always said Lesnar was a "flash in the pan." No real skill just a big ogre that can hammer first and sell PPVs.

Randy Couture is known as one of the best all time and his standup was never really that good. He was a wrestler/GnP guy.Automatik;1038746 wrote:I understand completely. Tito Ortiz was one of the best LHW of all time and his stand up sucked.
Damian Maia is a great MW and his stand up sucks.
Cheik Kongo is a dang good HW and his ground game sucks balls.
Yes, it is always better to be well rounded, but you can be a great MMA fighter with being AMAZING in one aspect and pretty suspect at the others.
Now, you look at the current champions and you have guys that are great at both the standup and ground fighting (Dos Santos, Jones, Silva, GSP, Edgar, Aldo, Cruz...all good at both the standup and ground game). But that does not mean you "have no skills" if you are amazing at one aspect and suck at the others. -

Yeah that is obvious. I should have used better words so my comment wasn't taken so literal.jmog;1038897 wrote:I can't stand Lesnar, but you don't win a NCAA HW wrestling national championship with "no real skill".
Lesnar relied on his insane strength and wrestling and it only got him so far. The HW division was rather 'meh' when he got his start and it has gotten much better. When forced to stand and bang he got owned. If he improved his striking a little and was about 5 years younger he'd be set. Maybe he came back too early? I don't really know the recovery time after getting a foot of your colon removed.
He's what....in his mid 30s? Could you imagine him now if he started in his early 20s? -

I guarantee you this is coming from a moron who has never wrestled or if he did was mediocre at it and doesn't realize the sacrifice you make to be good at it like lesnar was. The hard work and grit from wrestling transitions well as well as the skill. So I forgive you for your ignorance sincerely all ex wrestlersAutomatik;1038721 wrote:I'm talking about in MMA. I'm sorry did I say something to knock Lesnar's wrestling skills? No, I didn't.BearBoy69;1041678 wrote:I guarantee you this is coming from a moron who has never wrestled or if he did was mediocre at it and doesn't realize the sacrifice you make to be good at it like lesnar was.
