Pujols to Angels

@Buster_ESPN: Pujols to the angels, done, sources say

    Who saw that coming?

    Lol peace cardinals
  • SnotBubbles
I'm not happy. Not because I wanted him on the Cubs, but because I wanted him to drain the Cardinals pockets for 10 years. Now that he's out of the NL Central and St. Louis....they have a TON of money to make some splashes, with an already talented team.

This is the best thing to happen to the Cardinals in the history of the franchise.

    10 years, $250 million.

    Incredible.
  • pmoney25
Works out best for all parties I think. Cardinals don't have to pay him for ten years and Pujols can spend the latter part of the contract as a DH.

Could be up to $260 million per Ken Rosenthal.

I think it's time for a salary cap in baseball....they're still going after CJ Wilson too.

Wow, that's alot of money for a guy they aren't even sure is really 31 years old.

Ask the Yankees how that 10 year 275 million dollar deal for Arod is working now that he is 36.

Does this mean the Angels have no faith that Kendrys Morales will make it back from his ankle injury? Because if he does, they have Pujols, Morales and AL ROY runner-up Mark Trumbo at 1B/DH.
  • alwaysawarrior
Albert was clearly a lesser Albert than we were used to last year. A 10 year deal is nuts, but he was going to get it from somewhere.

Morales is likely not to be tendered a contract per reports on Twitter now.

Sounds like the perfect storm for a team that needs a RH hitting first baseman.

Is this what antonetti was talking about this whole time?

The Morales situation is intriguing. The Angels thought he would be ready to go last year, and never was ready. He is just now hitting off a tee and doing some light jogging. IF he comes back healthy, I'd love to have him in the middle of a lineup. Probably worth taking a chance on, but wouldn't be very wise to count on him for anything.

Sounds like the type of move the Indians make, always leave an excuse window.

...and the Angels just signed C.J. Wilson. $325 million in spending this morning. Wow.
  • osu45804
C.J. Wilson signs with angels $75M 5 yrs

Baseball needs a salary cap, IMO
  • Wooball
WOW. Weaver, Haren, Wilson is going to be murder to face in a 3 game series.

And when Santana has his good stuff, lights out. I'd say they immediately made themselves favorites in the AL.
  • justincredible
Angels have almost spent double what the team was bought for ($184 mil) in 2003.
  • SnotBubbles
The funny thing is, as a follower of all of the Cubs guys...the Angels have called (today) and inquired about the availability of Matt Garza. They want more...
  • jpake1
Ha, good luck with that. I hope St. Louis now signs Fielder.
  • SnotBubbles
Pujols turned down a 10 year 275 million $ contract from the Marlins. No trade clause was huge to him apparently.
  • ricola
Pujols was getting to big for his own britches. The Angels will be better for a few years, but will pay for it down the road. But hey, if the get a WS or 2 win out of it, most will say it was worth it.

Don't see that happening. I think Fielder's price tag just went up with the Pujols numbers.

I said last night that I didn't think it was wise for the Redbirds to do a 10-year deal. $220 million was bad enough, $250-265 million is just plain crazy. The bad news in this is that most of the good free agent pitching is gone.

Don't weep for the Cards, though. They still have a good looking lineup and Wainwright will be back next season. I still think they are the favorites in the NL Central, especially if Fielder goes to another division.

I'm just glad Pujols will be on the left coast. 10 years is crazy for a 31(maybe) year old.

Maybe they will frontload the contract. Bonds had some of his best years when he was right around 40. No reason Pujols can't do the same and he can DH.

There 1 major reason he wont do what bonds did. PEDs.
