UEFA Champions League

Laley23The second half of Group Play starts up today and tomorrow.
ManU - Benfica on FSC and Real Madrid - Zagreb on FSN will be the live games at 2:45
ManU versus Benfica could be a really good game, Madrid should roll if they play regulars.
Tomorrow has a good slate highlighted by Barcelona going to the San Siro to take on Milan. Will likely decide that group. I hope to be able to watch that one live, but I may be going to lunch with my grandma and cousins. Stupid Holidays -

DeyDurkie51-1 for both man u and city
-
Laley23As I figured, Madrid pouring it on more than the rain in Spain. 4-0 at half over Zagreb, doesnt look like Cristiano is playing either. 3 goals in the first 9 minutes.
ManU - Benfica has been really entertaining. Up and down, completely open match. Hopefully it stays that way in the second. I cant believe how much pace Pablo Aimar still has. Dudes seems like he has been playing forever, but is still only 32! -
Laley23God this game has been awesome. ManU has been peppering the goal, finally go up 2-1 and Benfica come right back 1 minute later and its now 2-2 with 30 minutes to play.

Not to rub it in, but this has been really fun. Benfica attacking ManU and making this a complete run and gun game. Both teams having ample chances (ManU more), and the midfield is completely open. Counter after counter.DeyDurkie5;984036 wrote:damnit!!!! -

Laley23Wow. Hernandez almost finds the net in the 93rd minutes, but just cleared over the bar. Corner is knocked out of the box, and it ends as a 2-2 draw. ManU will need to go to Switzerland and get a result to advance into the knockout round!

MulvaMan City hosting Bayern on December 7th. Need a draw for any shot of advancing, but realistically they probably need to win (and have Napoli lose or draw at Villareal, who has 0 points through 5 matches).
I had no idea APOEL was leading their group. I will now be pulling for them for the rest of the way, assuring that they'll probably lose the next 2 matches and fail to advance. -
hoops23Wasn't able to catch any matches yesterday, kind of bummed :/

The ManU - Benfica match was great. I expect Milan - Barca to be fun as well. Milan cant really play for a draw at home. It would ensure they advance, but its highly unlikely they dont anyway, so might as well try to top the group, and to do so they need to beat Barca. They will have to go for the win. If its 0-0 or 0-1 they will have to attack and it will be open. If they score early though it could be boring. 90% Barca possession with a lot of clearances by Milan.hoops23;984617 wrote:Wasn't able to catch any matches yesterday, kind of bummed :/ -
Laley23So after all the hype from Barcelona about Bojan Krkic I was VERY skeptical, but still optimistic about Tiago Alcantara. But having seen the kid for the last few months win a starting spot for Pep in a lot of games, and then shine through I am convinced. He is playing great today versus Milan. Barcelona will have no problem replacing Xavi when his days are done with Tiago.
Also, up and down game 1-1 right now. Barca got up early from a Xavi tap in, Ibra answers a few minutes later. -
Laley232-1 Barca, Messi penalty kick. He actually got a YC for the first one, since he did the old stop the run watch the goalie and then shoot which is now outlawed. He buried the next one, perfect PK.
Not sure how the penalty was only a TC and not a RC, as Xavi was in on goal. But either way...fun game so far. -
DeyDurkie5keep the updates coming laley, appreciate it
-
Laley23Yellow card filed first half. I think 6 bookings, or close to it. 3 on each side. One last free kick here for Milan to answer before half.
-
Laley23And they cant do it. Very entertaining first half. Both teams had virtual tap-ins missed. Should be at least 3-2, but is 2-1 in favor of Barca.
-
Laley23Yellow Cards:
-Aqualini (Milan)
-Nesta (Milan)
-Messi (Barca)
-Van Bommel (Milan)
-Puyol (Barca)
-Abidal (Barca)
Mascherano escaped a yellow and Aqualini not only escaped a straight red, but also a second yellow.
They have also taken away Xavi's goal and given Van Bommel an OG. Still cant tell if he hit it or not. Xavi has the easy tap in regardless, so it wasnt like Van Bommel scored when Barca wouldnt have. It didnt matter. -
Laley23Holy Shit Balls! What a goal from Kevin-Prince Boateng!
2-2 55th minute. -
DeyDurkie5damnit!!!
Ive missed two unreal games it seems like. I hate to say it, im rooting for Milan in this one laley! -

I honestly couldnt care less if they win, but a draw sees them win the group also...DeyDurkie5;985277 wrote:damnit!!!

As I say it. XAVI! 3-2 Barca. What a fucking game! Pure Barcelona.
That play is what makes Messi the best in the world imo. We know about his finishing and dribbling and the incredible work rate on defense. But not many players in the world can make a pass on the run like that, through 4 defenders perfectly weighted to Xavi.
He is as good a passer as there is in football, and combined with everything else, its just a runaway for him as the World Best. -
grodtThis really has been a great game to watch.
