What do the Colts do with the No. 1 pick...if they get it
-
NonColts are 0-10
two games up or down however you want to look at it
Do they take Luck and just have him sit for 2-3-4 years until Manning retires?
Wait for the best trade offer and take it?
Or go with Luck and figure that Manning is finished or not able to come back as he was before. I doubt they do this but it's happened before with great QBs. -
wes_mantoothunless someone offers them their entire draft...they take Luck and prepare him for whenever Manning is done.
-
Ironman92Trade it to Pittsburgh for Jonathan Scott.
-
rydawg5according to everyone else, this is a playoff team with Peyton, so you don't really need the #1 pick. Just trade it.
-
like_thatYou draft Luck. Can't trust a neck injury. I would hear out all offers though. IF it's a ridiculous offer you can't refuse, then take it. You might not even fall that far down the first rd, and you can settle for Barkley.
-
tk421They need a lot more help than just a QB.
-
tk421Anyway, if you draft Luck #1, Payton has to be done after next year at the most. You don't pay #1 money and have him sit on the sidelines 3 years.
-
NonThat's a long time for a player of his caliber to sit and wait.
I think Manning has more than one year left...probably three more at least. -
FootwedgeDraft Luck. Rogers waited a few years and that worked out OK. Only other option would be trading it to the Browns for Mario Hardesty
-
daveDraft Luck, cut/trade Manning. Peyton is due some crazy amount in the spring, if you pay him that you have to keep him a few years. Luck should not sit on the bench 1 year let alone 2 or 3. Rodgers was not a top pick that was NFL ready.
-
ts1227Entertain trades, but only take ones that are absurdly in the Colts' favor from a desperate team. Play serious hardball with it.
If no one is willing to make a trade, draft Luck, and still say that you're listening (but still play hardball). Once teams see you with him they may be willing to cough up a shitload again.
If they still won't, groom him to be Manning's replacement. You either end up with a team's entire draft, or Andrew Luck, it's a win/win. -
hoops23This thread looks familiar.

Emmett Brown
One difference is Rodgers was a late 1st round draft pick and Luck will be number 1 overall. There is no way the Colts could pay Luck and Manning over $24 million a year for 2 to 3 years (Manning makes 18 million a year and Cam Newton makes 5.5 million. I assume Luck would make just a little bit more than Newton). That would be almost 25% of the salary cap tied into two players. If the Colts get the first pick they either trade it or draft Luck and trade Manning.Footwedge;972014 wrote:Draft Luck. Rogers waited a few years and that worked out OK. Aaron Rodgers rookie year was 05. His and Brett Favre's total cap value was just over $11 million or about 11% of the cap. -

Rodgers disagrees. Also the new rookie payscale means they won't be paying Luck as much as past overall #1s.tk421;971964 wrote:Anyway, if you draft Luck #1, Payton has to be done after next year at the most. You don't pay #1 money and have him sit on the sidelines 3 years. -
Laley23Draft Luck. They got lucky enough to fall into the situation to go from Manning to Luck and not (if he doesnt flop) have a rebuild process. Its a blessing, and you shouldnt fuck it up.
At this point, with Manning on the downside, Luck is MORE important than Manning (coming from the biggest Colts fan on this site). Id personally like to draft Luck, have him sit a year and trade Manning the year after. If not possible, if rather have Luck and trade Manning immediately. Give me another 12 years with Luck, then 3 more with Manning who at this point is a toss-up not to mention the team will take a few drafts to rebuild into a SB contender. Luck would then be in prime for those runs, Peyton will be retired. -
se-alumDraft Luck, no brainer.
-
Tiger2003I'd take Barkley over Luck.
-
Pick6They draft Luck.
-
sleeperI don't think they draft Luck, unless they are planning on trading him away. Luck isn't going to sit the bench for 3-4 years until Manning retires. 5.5+ million is a lot to pay a backup QB.
Chances are, they trade out of it to a desperate team willing to give up their entire draft + a 1st next year as well. -

Unfortunately, I agree. But I think if they were smart they would trade Manning before Luck. They would get a lot back for Peyton as well. -
BR1986FBThe going price for Luck is going to be three 1st rounders plus much more. Not sure that I'm that sold on him.

I think Barkley is the better QB. Yes I do believe Luck is a very very good QB but I think Barkley would make the better NFL QB. Just from watching both of them I think Barkley is the better passer. JMO -

Fair enough. I like Barkley a lot and hope the Browns take a loooong look at him if hes available with ATLs pick.Tiger2003;972607 wrote:I think Barkley is the better QB. I am more sold on Luck though based on the offense they run and his intangibles he seems to have. Both can make the throws, or so it seems. I like that Stanford runs a power game with like 3 TEs, and he still has a lot of success. -

I would take that deal easily. Any team trading for Luck is already liking going to be drafting in the top 10, so there still would be a chance to draft Barkley. Luck isn't THAT much better than barkley imo. Barkley and 3 first rd picks is a great draft.BR1986FB;972599 wrote:The going price for Luck is going to be three 1st rounders plus much more. I don't think Barkley is better, but I don't think he is that far off from being as good as Luck.
Barkley won't fall down that far, unless Atlanta just implodes.Laley23;972612 wrote:Fair enough. I like Barkley a lot and hope the Browns take a loooong look at him if hes available with ATLs pick.

I TAKE that deal if someone offers it but no way I'm giving up that much. Like you said, I don't think the dropoff is that much and I'm not completely sold on Luck being this "can't miss/once in a lifetime QB" that everyone seems to be touting him as.like_that;972617 wrote:I would take that deal easily.
