Nice that Columbus gets the Bengals over the Browns. The 1 PM game, Miami at New York is awful though. Arizona/Baltimore isn't much better. -

Actually I don't get it. Typically if Cincy and Cleveland are on the West Coast and Pittsburgh is at home, WBNS will pick up the Pittsburgh game. Your scenario would play out easier if PIT were at home AND played at 1:00. But since it's the Pats, it's at 4:15 and directly up against their secondary market teams. -

It keeps timing out. Anyway, columbus gets the choice of any of the three and has chosen the Steelers before. Its typically late season matchups though. One tme they had to put an article on the website as to why they showed the Steelers over the Browns because of complaints lol

Channel 10 has to put up a disclaimer any time they make any decision because everyone bitches about everything down there, lol.
When they have to pre-empt Wheel of Fortune, the apology/explanation reads so sincere too. Old people go crazy for that shit. -

It won't change. They actually have to pick which game they are going to show about 10 days ahead of time. They can't even wait until the prior week's games are over to see what the records of the teams are or who might be looking better.LJ;945256 wrote:Actually I don't get it. Frank Willson of Ch. 10 explained all this on the OBR website and once it's locked in, it's locked in. Because the NFL forces them to choose, instead of just allowing them to show both in-state teams on different channels, we go through this crap all season long.
What I don't get is this: the Bengals can't sell out their own ball park to lift a blackout, but somehow in COLUMBUS the geniuses at WBNS believe they will get better ratings than the Browns -- even though historically, Columbus has had more Browns fans than any other NFL team (the Dispatch used to do surveys every year).
Oh well, I've got NFL Ticket just because of this crap. I'd prefer not to have to spend the money, but between the NFL and its stupid rules and WBNS and its stupid decisions, I really don't have a choice. -

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the Bengals got higher ratings. They have a lot more "less hardcore fans" who want to watch the game, but won't lift a finger to ever buy tickets, merchandise, etc...but when it comes to just wanting to watch the game, it's probably very close.Writerbuckeye;945559 wrote:It won't change. Look at the viewership of the Reds from the outside market fans. One of the top cable TV broadcast ratings of the summer. Only the Yankees, Red Sox and Phillies are higher, and all of those teams sell out every game. The Reds on the other hand, were drawing 15-20K the 2nd half of the season, but their TV ratings still were at the very top. -
