Your First World Series

  • Little Danny
What is the first MLB World Series you remember watching?

My first was the 1979 World Series-- Pittsburgh Pirates v. Baltimore Orioles. I was six years old and I remember watching it with my dad.

The Pirates won that series 4-3. Willie Stargell had a monster series, hitting three HRs to lead the Bucs over the favored Orioles.

Probably Ozzie doing backflips in 82 for the Cards.

2001. Dbacks and Yankees. Haven't watched one game since.

1995. Only reason I watched was because the Indians were in it. Otherwise I wouldn't have cared as young as I was.

Vaguely remember the Pirates in 1960 with "no-touch" Maz's dramatic HR. Then well remember the Reds-Yankees no contest in 1961 when in 5th grade when we got to watch it on TV at school when there were all day games.

Big Red Machine in the 70s. Don Gullett was friends with my classmate's dad and hunted pheasant on their land.

Not sure, 77 or 78, it was Dodgers vs Yankees.

    This.

Probably 1996 Yankees-Braves. From what I remember it was a damn good series.
  • Ironman92
1982 Cardinals win games 6 and 7 to steal from the Brewers. Rookie Willie McGee hit 2 HR...I think more than his whole season.
  • Ironman92
Nope McGee hit 4 the whole season

    1995

I wasn't even 8 yet, but it killed me. Same with 1997. :(

Other than that, I honestly don't watch much of the WS. I watched the 2001 Series between the DBacks and Yanks and the Cards - Tigers series...

    1995 for me as well.

1997 WS devastated me way more than the 1995 WS did. I still can't forgive Jose Mesa.

1997. I was only 4 for the '95 series. I cried after '97 because I actually understood what baseball was at that point.
  • Sonofanump
What the hell, are you all like 20-22 year old?

    I still cry.

1995 was the first one I truly remember watching. First one I ever attended was in 1997 and unlike others on here I loved the 97 WS :).

'89 World Series - I still recall watching game 3 with my dad when the pregame broadcast suddenly stopped

I would have to say the '86 Mets and Sox series.

A kid from our town was drafted in the 3rd round I think by the Mets in 1984 so for a bit of time I became a Mets fan. Was around the same time that Doc Gooden was on the scene wtih some sick numbers. (think 24 win season, under 2 ERA maybe). Dad would take us to see the REds/Mets games when they came to cincy (was at the infamous Palone umpire incident).

Remember watching the epic I think 16 inning game in the NLCS with the Mets/Astros (mike scott's splitter was unreal).

1990 was probably the first series I watched every second of every Gm. Unbelieveable run by the Reds. Offing the Buccos in a tight series then to sweep the powerhouse A's. Wow!

Still have the Wheaties box. That was the last time it was exciting to be a Reds fan, lol.

    1990. I was in the 4th grade. Wire-to-wire, baby!

Probably the first I really remember anything from was 89 because of the earthquake.

First I remember watching all of is 1991. Kirby robbing a ball off the plexiglass in game 6, Lonnie Smith not scoring from first on a double and Jack Fucking Morris in game 7.

1995. I was 9 and only watched because of the Tribe. Im a big baseball fan, but the only 3 WS I have watched every game of was 95, 97 and the best WS I have seen (as you can tell, thats only 16 and 1 game) the 2001 DBacks - Yanks. The Fall Classic is a tough time schedule wise, coupled with it being spread out of the course of a week and a half and it makes it really tough for anyone, even fans like myself, to make the time to watch each game. I will obviously never miss a Tribe playoff/meaningful game, and I was fortunate enough to catch the 1st two games in '01 and it had me hooked. That series was awesome.

    25. But is it that surprising? Dont most sites, particularly forum sites, have the main demographic as those who grew up in the internet age? Or were in school when it started and got to use it while learning etc.

I guess to me it is, since this site is a spurn from a site that existed for over a decade before falling into bad management.
