Gibson was out due to an injury to his hand.

That's what I thought--I thought I heard them say he injured his knuckle or something.

Mike Brown is not the problem.

Well you can't really just claim that without citing what you think the problem is.

I am glad he got ejected tonight. He needed to step up for LeBron on that no call--honestly, not being a homer at all, LeBron gets fouled probably 90% of the time he goes in the paint. Only called about half the time. He's got Shaq syndrome--sometimes you can't physically see the foul because he doesn't go flying to the floor.

If Brown isn't the problem, I'd say that an aging Shaq that doesn't come to play every night is. It's damn hard for any coach to motivate a veteran like Shaq. When he comes to play we're damn good. But starting him in favor of Z (who has lost a step granted) puts Z in the role of bench guy that he's not used to. He takes too long to get in the groove and when he does needs to come out to rest.

Shaq might be better off the bench.

Brown IS the main problem. How can I tell? Because this team is making the SAME fucking mistakes they made last year. They get huge leads in games, but can't put them away. We still resort in crunch time, to having the 4 guys on the floor not named LeBron, stand aside and watch him try to win games, instead of trying to step up their roles and maybe make a play of their own. Six of our seven losses have been games in which we were held to under 100 points. In fact, on the season we are 3-6 in games where we score less than 100 points. Mike Brown is this defensive minded coach, that can only manage to get his team to win a third of the games they play in which defense ultimately decides the outcome. We have one of the best scorers in the game, one of the top 5 I believe, scoring duos in the entire league, yet in nearly half our games so far, we can't break 100 points.

Boston: 28 first quarter points, 61 points the rest of the game.
Chicago: 27 first quarter points, 58 the rest of the way.
Washington: 32 first quarter points, 59 the rest of the way.

Has he not learned a thing since watching us, yes, watching, because he certainly does not coach, blow double digit leads multiple times against Orlando in the ECF's?

It's obvious that he is intimidated by LeBron. You never see him coach LeBron on a mistake, not like he coaches anyone else either, but likewise, He will stick his neck out for LeBron, but not for the rest of the team. LeBron is the coach of that team, not Mike Brown. Its one thing to let him run the show on the floor, but once a game is out of hand, or the plan isn't working, there HAS to be someone on the bench thats able to make an adjustment, and get the team to buy into it, and Mike Brown does not show that ability at all. Second quarters are killers to us. Perhaps he should abandon his sitting LeBron for the first six minutes of the second and NOT allow teams to catch up to us before inserting him back in. His tactics didn't work last season, and the teams that were tough a year ago got tougher, so what on earth makes him believe they are going to work this season?

Mike Brown is the best head coach in the city of Cleveland right now. Of course, that isn't saying a whole lot. He is part of the problem but not all of it.
Many of the players on the team are too inconsistent. They play well at times, and other times they are just terrible.

A very true statement. I will say that some of that is definitely due to his whacked out rotations.

    Avery Johnson baby...

Maybe we can lure the Czar out of retirement...

    Stan Van Gundy...

Hubie Brown seems to love LeBron...

Oh, Mark Jackson is still looking for a head coaching opportunity...

Hmm, can't forget Avery Johnson or Byron Scott.

Lawrence Frank is available now as well...

why can't I? I just did. And nobody banned me for it.

Mike Brown isn't a great coach, he's just an okay coach that has Lebron carrying him to needed wins to make him look good. I wouldn't care if he got fired, but I don't really think its him. 2 games is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but if we keep dropping games then someone has to take responsibility and that'll be Mike Brown, right or not.

The problem is the Lebron offense. You can't dribble the ball for 20 secs and expect to do something and whine after every time you do not get a foul called.

    Laughable, 90% of the time?????

    Agreed.

Wouldn't need the LeBron offense if Mike Brown actually knew how to draw up any plays....I honestly think high schools have more complex playbooks.

I agree as well. That falls on the coach as much as the player though. Obviously the best play call isn't the LeBron dribble out the clock, so either A.) Brown calls that play, or B.) Brown is afraid to tell LeBron not to run that shitty play. Either way it's terrible coaching.

    Agreed.

The Cavs offense is now coaching the Pistons. At least last year we had an offensive minded coach on the team.

I don't watch every Cavs game, but I'd say Brown is a pretty good coach. That hardest thing to do as a coach is change the culture. He has done that. This team comes to play team defense better than 90% of the teams out there. Before he came, you couldn't say that about the team. It was even hard to say it about LBJ, but he's got him into a great defender as well. Wasn't he voted coach of the year? I thought I heard that. You can't just dismiss that like many Cleveland fans have dismissed Anderson being a pro-bowler once. I also don't think it is his problem that this team gives up big leads as somebody mentioned on this thread. These are grown men and professionals; it's their own damn fault that they take their foot off the gas. It's a big reason I don't believe in this team. It KILLED them last year against Orlando. I still don't know if they've learned their lesson. I'm sure he could do some things better. But I also believe his team can do things better on their own.
  • SQ_Crazies
I agree with that jpake. It's not Browns fault that they don't get it done on the floor. It isn't LeBron's fault that no one cuts when he has the ball--sometimes they do and they look real good. Then sometimes they get caught watching. The supporting cast just needs to be more consistent is all--that's always been it. We don't have too many guys that we can count on to give their regular numbers on a nightly basis--and especially when that is happening with starters, it causes problems.

Is a new coach going to motivate Shaq???? Is a new coach going to make Z quicker on the floor???? Is a new coach going to take the ball out of Lebron's hands at a critical juncture in the game??? Is a new coach going to put an end to the whining by Andy and Lebron after every foul called on them???

Perhaps. It sure shows when Mike Brown throws a fucking fit in Houston over LeBron not getting a foul call in the second quarter. I don't give a damn if we are a good team defensively etc. Numbers don't lie, when we MUST win playing defense, a majority of the time we lose. Games under 100 points, we lose. Happened last season, is happening again this season. 14 of our 16 regular season defeats were games where we were held to less than 100 points. In the postseason, we lost 2 of 3 games to Orlando when we scored less than 100, and also lost 2 of 3 when we scored more than 100, but we also let go of a 15 point halftime lead in one of those games. I'm sorry, but if statistics show me that I win 38 of 40 games when my team scores over 100 points, and I only win 28 of 42 when they score less than 100 points, I'm coaching my team to play the odds, and get to 100 points every single night. Defense is important, but the best defense comes with your team in the lead and the opponents game winning shot being off target. Successful coaches can implement this mindset into their players. When you're team has two players that combined, score nearly 50 points a game, you should be able to find a way to get your other 8 players to come up with 50 of their own. He doesn't do this. He is a good guy, but he lets his player do the coaching, at all times. he showed them how to be a successful defense, but that doesn't mean he can coach them to championships. This is like the Marty Schottenheimer situation in San Diego. Sure, he could get his teams to win games in the regular season, and some playoff games, but he couldn't get them to the Super Bowl, and the organization felt that he wasn't going to be able to do so by staying either, so they went another direction.

My point is, the first thing Mike Brown should be telling this team is score 100 points, and we will win this game. I don't think he does this. You can tell by the lackluster effort we give offensively. You can't consistently rely on your defensive skills alone to win basketball games, take a look at the Lakers and you will see this. Put up 110 points on your opponent, then when you do go cold, which happens every game, you can use a solid defensive effort to not relenquish your lead.
