You know as well as me that back in the day you'd have to fight a starting pitcher to get him off the mound. A lot of his compensation/bonuses were predicated on how many complete games he threw.
I remember when Nolan Ryan took over as President of the Rangers, he said this...
“I haven’t been pleased with the direction baseball’s taken pitching over the last 15 or 20 years, and I felt like we needed to regain some of what we had lost,” Ryan said. “I felt like we had a lot of pitchers that have been on pitch limits ever since Little League, and we don’t know what their genetic potential is as far as the number of pitches and workload they can handle.”
As the Rangers lead over the Angels has dwindled in the past few weeks he is saying this...
"I'm not as worried about the offensive and defensive side of it as much as I am the pitching. They're just not sharp. They looked fatigued. These are the dog days, and this is when you have to push yourself."
These are the dog days and they are pitching in the heat of Texas. These(Rangers) pitchers SHOULD be on a pitch count. They don't have Cliff Lee to rely on this Fall. All 5 of their starters have over 150 IP and no other AL team has more than 3.

Looking forward to the day when Head gets on to setup a Chisenhall walk off shot.

Well the Royals load the bases with no outs in the first and only get 1 run, then we do the same thing and only get one run. We suck. Shelly Duncan, the DH today, popped it up to freaking first base. Then Fuko grounded to the pitcher for a double play.

with football season less than a week away, my apathy towards the Tribe has gone into overdrive--they truly do suck

Did they have bases loaded no outs with one run in and score 0 in the first.

they scored on a bases loaded walk.

Someone someday is gonna have to teach Zeke how to read left-handed pitchers moves. Too many times this year he's gotten picked off by taking off too early. Can't afford to give away outs like that, especially in a close game.
  • grodt
Also, we're once again making a mediocre lefty seem like Randy Johnson.

    What an exciting game!

Yeah, bases loaded, no out, ONE run in and scored 0 runs after that...

someone also needs to teach zeke how to sacrifice bunt.
  • grodt
He's got the potential to be a decent player but he's gotta learn some fundamentals. Too many dumb mistakes.

We need this game, Detroit is losing right now and we are now in must win games.
  • grodt
Man it's beyond frustrating that we can't muster any offense against Bruce freakin' Chen.
  • BRF
What a sorry game that was.

    That should do it...Go Browns

This was REALLY a bad loss. Coming off last night's comeback it seemed like things might be turning around a bit, especially with Thome back in the fold giving the team a spark.

Detroit has been on fire of late, and when you're playing the Royals, and Detroit is losing, you can't afford to lose those kind of games.

In 7 home games against the Mariners and Royals (2 of the worst teams in baseball) they are 3-4. That just can't happen when you're trying to chase down a pack of surging kitties.

ugly loss. been the story all year...throw a mediocre soft tossing lefty out there and the offense looks like they've never played the game before

Also, this team is made out of glass. I have no idea who the strength and conditioning coach is, but he sucks. Or we just find the weakest individuals possible.

Obviously Choo is the exception, because he got drilled in the hand with a high heater.. But Grady, Hafner, a few pitcher, Brantley, and even Kipnis... Just unbelievable.

It only took Kipnis 2 weeks with the new S&C coach to get all pussified.

This is so true, it's hard to get any kind of rhythm with who is out there playing and the lineup changing so often. We saw at the beginning of the year how good this team CAN be when everyone is healthy and in the lineup everyday.....the minute one of the "starters" goes down it just throws everything out of wack.

Speaking of pussified, I know that Kipnis is out with the hammy injury buy he also has the oblique injury. WTF is with all of these oblique injuries? Never USED to see "oblique injuries." Like you said, bunch of f'in pussies.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who feels this way--I've been posting this exact sentiment for the last week or so, and am frustrated with it as well--it's not only embarrassing for the organization, but downright pathetic.

You'd be surprised then on how many people share hoops' view. It's a joke.
