Leake vs Wang for all the marbles.

Better not be a sweep. Reds should win at least one.

Oh .you were talking about the reds sweeping the Natinals.
  • Ironman92
    Both teams have 62 losses.

Jonny Gomes facing his former club.

Nats have played above their heads and Reds have played below expectations

120 games is pretty telling IMO regardless of how they might be labeled.

Look who gets another shot in left.

    Stubbs 8
    Renteria 6
    Votto 3
    Phillips 4
    Bruce 9
    Hernandez 2
    Alonso 7
    Frazier 5
    Leake 1

Doesn't sound like too bad of a lineup out there...if only we had a healthy Cozart playing SS and batting leadoff.

If Cozart were in that would be 7 out of the 9 players have been brought up in the system. Next year with Mesoraco there will be times when the whole lineup is home grown players (Minus Phillips but basically has spent his entire career here.) Pretty remarkable in this age.

And by the looks of things, all of these young guys look to be legit starters now and in the near future. Then have Cueto and Chapman as our first 2 in the rotation next year, maybe.

Plus Leake, Bailey and Wood. The whole rotation could be home grown boys.

Yeah, people can try to hash out who is a better team at this point, but as they say in baseball...you are what the back of your baseball card says you are.

the thing is......it is a disappointing season for the reds, and one that is one of progression for the Natinals. Plus, they have Harper on his way up, and Strasburg on rehab so they have to be feeling good with improving before their dual top picks are with the club.

wtf is the plan for yonder? He sits over a week, now they think he can play LF again? If you believe in him you should probably let him get used to your home park with a small LF rather than the huge OF in Washington, high wall in Houston, and wind of Wrigley.

Yonder pretty well proved on the first batter that he and LF are not close to being a match! I'm in favor of a plan to trade Votto in the off-season and put him at first.
  • mhs95_06
    Defense hurting both teams.

I agree with this. I love his bat in the lineup, but you either have to let him play and deal with him being a liability or you just simply quit playing him out there. It is hard to get better at being an outfielder when you play once in a blue moon

    Jose Bautista?

The Reds hanging onto Alonso kind of foreshadowed this move.

damn, could have been about 6 outs this inning.

Stubbs got away with a bad base-running decision in the first. He tagged and went to 3rd on the 2nd out on a tough play by Werth in RF. He ended up scoring on the Bruce single, which he would have anyway if he had stayed on 2B. His bad play would have been manifest had Werth not caught the fly(just like on the Hernandez ball later in the first that he got his glove on, but didn't catch) and Stubbs would have been embarrassed to not score.

Leake not a beneficiary of the "A" defense on the field to protect his lead with Alonso and Renteria out there with 3 failed opportunities for outs n the field in the first, along with the Bruce contribution to an EBH. The good thing that is making this game competitive is the Nats are having defensive problems also.
  • Ironman92
Renteria on his RBI double pulled the groin pretty good as he had to hop to second.

Welsh said ice it up and he should be back tomorrow? Barry Larkin missed a ton of games with groin injuries....it was always several games.

I hate to rely on Janish every day at SS.....batting 2nd
  • mhs95_06
Maybe the Reds can win tomorrow with defensive liabilities Alonso(LF) and Renteria(SS) off the field, also Bruce and Votto playing more inspired defense would help. Sure were a lot of balls that were in gloves and close that got away for non outs. Leake wasn't as sharp, but deserved better. Maybe the winning streak with Janish starting will continue. I wouldn't be surprised if Renteria doesn't play the rest of the year. Should they put him on the 60 day DL and add a young SS to the MLB roster and let him play some along with Janish?
