Blockbuster MLB Deal. Tigers deal Curtis Granderson to the Yankees
-
darbypitcher22they're playing by the rules of the game. Luxury Tax is a defacto salary cap. Money gets redistributed throughout baseball to the rest of the owners, its up to them to do with it what they want. Not many of them put it back into their teams.

lol, The Tigers will not move Cabrera. Not even a possibility.HighRoller74 wrote:
I remember seeing something on OTL I believe, maybe Drennan, that said they may be trading away almost all of the high priced players. I can see Miguel Cabrera being moved as well. I know they want to move Magglio, but no one will take his 18 million.dave wrote: detroit must really be hurting for cash.
great move by the yanks, they are now pretty young at many key positions, its not like they need coke and jackson. -
heel023What are the odds now that Matsui comes back? How much does he have left?
-
Lovejoy1984Matsui probably won't be back.

King CurtisThe deal is done. Go to MLBTradeRumors and read the different articles about it.

King CurtisAlright, but the deal is done.

KnightXC1^^ No it's not. No announcement has come from any of the teams as they are still going over medical records and all the fine print. Expected to be announced sometime today.

lhs2ndbaseThe move makes $en$e for Detroit, they just picked up 3 guys that were top round picks when they were in the draft, a pitcher in Scherzer who struck out over a batter an inning as a starter, Schlereth who has the potential to be the lights out lefty out of the pen Detroit will need to beat Minnesota and possibly end up being the closer if they lose Fernando, and a top notch OF prospect.
You also add in the fact that over the past three years Grandy's numbers have been going down and the next three years they would have owed him close to $23 million. I also believe they may trim some more payroll to possibly pick up Orlando Hudson to play 2b, unless they believe Santiago can play everyday, which I have doubts of. -
KnightXC1^^ Obviously they did it for monetary reasons as other than that, there is no reason to trade a guy would anchor the team with Cabrera for another 5 years. They have Scott Sizemore to play 2B next year with Santiago and Everett will platoon at SS. Now they could sign another player to go to 2B but I won't be surprised if they don't.
I'm not sold on the players they got yet so I look forward to seeing how they perform in spring training and the first month or so of the season. Austin Jackson better be a stud or I will be pretty upset. -
fortfanI think they go into the season with Sizemore as the everyday 2B.
I hate that they traded Grandy....but that's baseball. Hopefully the guys they got pan out and Jackson becomes a great centerfielder. (soon) -
KnightXC1I like a lot of the young guys they have to play in the outfield over the next few years with Raburn, Thomas, Kelly, Wilkin Ramierez, and Austin Jackson. Hopefully the last two pan out and become good players. Starting pitching after Verlander and Porcello worry more than anything right now. Seems they may be hoping that Bonderman and Nate can be reliable this season but I have my doubts for both.

DaBrowns41Acquiring Scherzer was a great deal for the Tigers, but it's tough losing Grandy.
