Reds vs. Cubs - Game 1

  • TigerNation10
2:20 start. Cubs are playing better which means the Reds will probably sweep.

    Drew Stubbs 8
    Paul Janish 6
    Joey Votto 3
    Brandon Phillips 4
    Jay Bruce 9
    Ramon Hernandez 2
    Yonder Alonso 7
    Todd Frazier 5
    Mike Leake RHP

Gotta love Dusty keeping the SS in the 2 hole.

    Leake (9-6, 3.89 ERA) vs. Dempster (8-8, 4.96 ERA)

Fay said he is taking fielding and batting practice today to get used to the brace and might require offseason surgery.

    Heisey is hurt(oblique).

When I heard the line-up with Alonso in LF, I thought that is not good with Leake pitching!

It just amazes me how often the reds have chances to put up a number, don't, then immediately give up multiple runs.

The Ramirez double makes the Alonzo bad play moot!

Can I get a score update?
  • mhs95_06
Reds score two in the 4th to cut the Cubs lead to 3-2. With two out Alonso singles, Frazier walks, and Leake drives in a run with a broken bat single to CF, then Frazier scores on a WP. The walk, WP, and the Leake hit that fell out of Campana's glove on a diving catch attempt hurt Dempster and the Cubs badly.

Unfortunate for Leake with the ump not calling the proper 3rd strike on the 2-2 to Hill. Makes him have to get the pitcher out for the 3rd out to let the Cubs start the 5th with the lead-off hitter.

Went to the McCartney concert last night, it was nice to see someone with talent use it inside GABP.

Dempster finishes off his day of 110 pitches with a 92 and 93 mph to K Stubbs for the 2nd time to end the 6th.
  • mhs95_06
Great job by Leake to get out of the 6th unscathed after having 2nd and 3rd with no out, striking out the last two batters after a ground-out to 3B.
  • mhs95_06
Whose drive was hit harder? Colvin or Phillips? Results were a HR to RF and an out, nearly a DP, to CF.

Why is it not chapman here!!??? Brey will give up a run. Guys can hit it. Let chapman come in and get the k or a hard enough hit ground ball to throw the guy out at home.

Alonso doubles, Heisey pinch runs. Frazier strikes out. Lewis up.

Tying run on 2nd, no out, pinch runner, and none of the following 3 hitters(or maybe they are masquerading as hitters) can move him -- dies on 2nd!

    Campana....killed em.

    Oh yeah....Dusty sucks.

Sooo is it safe to say the Reds are cooked this year?
  • mhs95_06
The Reds were only out-scored by one run in July, but went 10-15. In the last homestand(last 10 games of July) the Reds outscored the opponents 58-46 and won 2 of 3 of the series, one a sweep, but went just 5-5 thanks to the debilitating 4 game sweep at home by the Mets.

Now they have started August in similar fashion, going 1-3 so far, but having out-scored the opponent 15-14!

    Batting 2nd...... Paul Janish

Not because he is Roberto Alomar as an offensive player....just because he is playing SS.
