They are in the playoff hunt. If they make the playoffs, they can win the World Series. That is what most people mean when they use the word "contention"
Because of your free lesson you provided me with, I am happy to say that this lesson will also be free of charge. -

How are they not contending.
As of today....
Pirates 2.5 games back
DBacks 4 games back
Indians 1.5 games back
So how are they not contending? -

I think the trade was great move. Everyone gets so caught up on your farm system. How the hell do you know if they will produce you don't. But you do know Pence will he has done it now in Pros you know what your getting.
Your not hoping one of your prospects live up to the hype.
Teams w/ monster payrolls don't have to worry much about their farm systems. Teams with small market payrolls have to be very protective of their farm system. -
Tiger2003A strong belief in the ATL organization that the package they offered for Pence was markedly better than deal HOU made with Philadelphia.

Tiger2003Pence is 0-3.

Tiger2003Pence just got his first hit and RBI in the 8th to give the Phillies 7-4 lead. He will finish the night at 1-5. Just happy he got that first hit out of the way.

How do you respond to the Indians trading for Ubaldo Jimenez haha?Philly will have a nice big window over the next few years, but after that they are going to need to turn into the Yankees - Red Sox if they want to keep winning. Meaning that they are going to need to overpay for veterans in free agency
Oh come on now there Jordo. The tribe picks up a 273 banjo hitter....and the Phillies pick up a 308 hitting stud. It's all good for baseball, right? I mean, why have a cap at all? How dare the
Phils increase their payroll and interupt the baseball monopoly of the Yanks and Red Sox?
When will people understand that only having a few teams competing is what us baseball purests yearn for?
LMAO while SMH.
