*Happy Birthday Alex Rodriguez

  • Ironman92
Baseball used to be a huge game of numbers.....steroids has killed it a good bit. But stat freaks llke me still appreciate huge career numbers....even those slightly inflated.

Today Arod turns 36....Here are his career rankings for all stats in MLB history before turning 36:

    Games...........2383 (5th)
    AB.................9131 (6th)
    Runs.............1810 (2nd)
    Hits...............2762 (8th)
    HR................626 (1st)
    RBI...............1883 (2nd)
    K..................1903 (3rd)
    Total Bases....5191 (2nd)
    Xtra base hit..1148 (3rd)

Mostly the only guys in front of him were Gehrig, sometimes Aaron and Ruth...mostly it

Where might he finish? Well you know he's going to try and pass 762 HR as he gets HUGE payouts for every person he passes on the HR list and of course...you want ot be #1. So I'll guess using his HR numbers. End of this year 635 HR, end of 2012 666 HR, end of 2013 695 HR, end of 2014 722 HR, end of 2015 748, end of 2016 765. IF he plays that long....and yes it might be a bit of a stretch....but that will put him at 41...not that crazy. I included many injuries and old age decline and PT.

    Games......3035
    AB............11050
    Runs.........2170
    Hits...........3430
    Doubles.....605
    HR............765
    RBI...........2240
    SB............330
    BB............1400
    K..............2500

Wish he never would've done the steroids , whatever years he did ( I think he claimed a 2 or 3 year period while on the Rangers)....numbers still would've been historically high and I have a zillion of his baseball cards....plus I like huge career numbers.....but yes......****, just how much is to each their own and I can't argue it. But whenever anyone asks me the best players of my lifetime.....he's getting mentioned every time.

Aroid is a bitch. His numbers are meaningless to me.
  • Ironman92
He ranks even higer in career stats among bitches.
  • Automatik
Haha....that is one stat I can applaud.

    #3 Arod
    #2 Bonds
    #1 Clemens

Who will be the first user to make it in???

Id venture to say it comes from the 2013 class (though not on their first ballot). I think Bonds and Clemens both make it in year #2. Sosa has NO SHOT (like McGwire, imo). Biggio may be a first ballot, though he just doesnt seem it. But 3k....well, its 3k. Piazza, yes but not first ballot, and I dont think he used. Schilling I dont think used, but I also dont think he is a HOFer so it is mute.

But Ill say, 2014 Bonds and Clemens make it. They will be the first 2 known users to do so right?

I'm not sure those two will make it real soon....those baseball writers are some pretty arrogant people who vote no to guys like Tom Seaver and Steve Carlton....if Alomar doesn't make it his first attempt as a 2nd baseman....no one should.

I think the voters will stick it to Bonds and Clemens for several years.....boy that I agree on Bonds. Clemens was done....then all of a sudden was the best pitcher for the next 7 years. Doc Gooden did the wrong drugs.

Everything he does will be great. But he will never get into the Hall.

Yeah, that is probably true. I also agree on Alomar, how was he not first ballot??

Either way, and I KNOW the writers hate Bonds and Clemens. But Bonds was a damn MVP for years before the roids. He is a HOF regardless. Clemens, he really boltered his career. But he was also the best pitcher in the game before roids. I mean, both are fringe (outside looking in, but close) if they had retired before the roids started. No way in hell do I think it helped them THAT much (ie, to the point that they wouldnt have been good enough if they had gone 4-5 more years being clean.

Because he spit on an umpire and then raised a ton of money for the guy's sick kid and then became good friends. Those who didn't see him play 2nd base as a Blue Jay....well they really missed greatness. One of the most complete in every possible facet players ever. His defense+ baseball smarts+ baserunning may be unmatched by anyone I've seen.

I am guessing both Piazza and Schilling get in first ballot.

I believe Schilling to be a user. His 93 mph for several years to start his average career quite suddenly turned to 99 mph.
  • Laley23
If Schilling is a first ballot HOF Im gonna shit myself. He is fringe HOF material as it stands (because he used).

    216-146
    3.46 ERA
0 CYA (4 times receiving votes)
    6 time AS
3116 K (the biggest thing he has going for him, imo)

His WS moments are the biggest thing people remember though.

I don't vote him in. Jack Morris first.....and I'm iffy on Morris.

I've been stunned as to why Morris has not been voted in yet. He was a better player than at least a third of those voted in the last decade.
