I'92s Baseball Trivia....Eric Davis

  • Ironman92
Normally my questions are made to make it difficult to cheat.....but this one is much easier so please just give it a good guess.

Back in 1987 Eric Davis ran off this incredible stat line in just 129 games played: 120 runs, 37 HR, 100 RBI, 50 stolen bases (only caught 6 times) hit .293 with a .991 OPS (3rd best in the NL).....and won a gold glove....YET finished 9th in the NL MVP voting........name the 8 players who finished ahead of him.

I ran out of Cubbies to guess off the top of my head. Shawon Dunston? He had a weak arm.

Dawson was first with huge power numbers a gold glove but on a last place team with the 10th best OPS.....but 49 HR and 137 RBI

Ozzie finished 2nd on a great Cardinals team and easily his best year as the best SS, 104 runs, 75 rbi, 43 SB and a .303 avg

    Strawberry was 6th with 108 runs, 39 HR, 104 RBI, 36 SB .284 avg and .981 OPS

Dale Murphy was ELEVENTH with 44 HR 105 RBI, 115 BB and a .997 OPS (2nd in NL)!!!!! Major screw!

Think about who won the SW the year before.

Yes.....without any doubt in my mind, in my 25+ years of watching MLB baseball.....no fielder has had a stronger arm than Shawon Dunston.....Mark Grace agrees whole-heartedly.

    What is the SW?
  • karen lotz
    Mookie Wilson? Gary Carter?
  • Ironman92
Gary Carter (hope he gets back to good health) somehow

lol.....I screwed up again....when researching this I remember clicking on 1986 and my clue is wrong I gave you lotz...sorry......Strawberry was the only Met in the top 9.....but Ho Jo with 36 HR and 32 SB was 10th after Eric the Red.
  • Ironman92
    OK...next clue (for 2 others).......think "the catch"
  • karen lotz
Dwight Clark and Joe Montana? That doesn't seem correct...
  • karen lotz
    Will the Thrill!
  • Ironman92
Will Clark was 5th (little high but he was the golden guy back when he came up).....89 runs, 35 HR , 91 RBI, .308 and .951....no way in that offensive year is that 5th
  • Ironman92
    Joe Montana...no
  • Ironman92
    OK....we have 4 of them

    1st Dawson
    2nd Ozzie
    5th Will Clark
    6th Darryl Strawberry

need 3rd, 4th, 7th and 8th.....8th really got ripped off like Davis and Murphy

    Kevin mitchell?
  • Ironman92
Gwynn was 8th.......119 runs, 219 hits, 56 stolen bases (yes, that is correct), gold glove in RF, .958 OPS and hit THREE freaking SEVENTY...no one else in league over .338 and only 5 players over .308.
  • Ironman92
no on Kevin Mitchell.......the catch is football but it was used to get to Will Clark.....there could be another Clark....right Lewis?
  • Ironman92
The catch could get you to the #3 guy.....The Tool Man could get you to #4 and #7
